  1. Your average thief doesn't want guns for several reasons, how do you get rid of them as your average housebreaker doesn't have the contacts to get rid of it. If your caught with an unlicensed gun its a min 5 years in jail which is a lot more than what they would get for braking in and as said before they want easy to fence items or cash. Also the places most people hide keys, jewllery etc are the first places the thiefs look so even if you think your key is well hidden they will most probably find it very quickly.
  2. Probably overkill but my key is in a cheap digital safe that sits on top of the cabinet that only i know the combination for. Various reasons for this a very clever 4 year old son who can find anything hidden in the house and its somewhere else to put things you dont want the wife to find (obviously the expensive presents for her). Safe is just as secure as the cabinet so If they can get into one they can get into the other.
  3. It's not just the courts that is the problem. When I was at school and learning to drive we were told every two minutes at school and on TV, don't drink and drive, don't take drugs etc. Problem arose when people stopped drinking and driving and the numbers caught dropped so they stopped the education programs. What we find now is there are three types of drivers. The older mid 40's upwards hard core drink drivers who don't think it is a problem and will always do it, a middle group from around 25 to early 40's who just won't do it at all and now we are getting more and more under 25's drink driving as it is no longer taught during road safety in school or on the TV so they don't see it as a problem or what it can do.
  4. There is no legal limit of consumption as drink affects every one diffrently. One drink may put you over the limit one day but not the next. I just dont drink at all if i'm driving. I also believe the police should target areas where drink drivers are likely to be whether its vehicles leaving a shoot or cars in the morning after xmas nights out. I hate drunk drivers as i have to deal with the aftermath and tell the families the bad news.
  5. Got a 650 bandit that I use to get to work on but at the moment and don't get enough time on it during the summer due to the kids. It's in the garage just now as the MOT has run out and I don't have the time to go and get it done again. Bike will probably wait until the spring now as the roads round me are slick with ice and I don't fancy hitting the ground.
  6. Stongbow but might regret it when 4 year old gets up at 6am
  7. Just managed to tidy up from the gales during the week up her in Scotland and were starting to get battered again with the wind getting a lot stronger.
  8. There is only one way you could take a shot as my neighbours house and garden also borders onto the area along with a neighbours field and wouldn't want the hassle of the pellet going pst the fence as their back door is there. If you did take a shot you would be pointing at the rabbit and straight at the greenhouse a few feet away.
  9. If its dead we can fish it out with a pole to get rid of it as we had to do this before when the dog did catch one of them under the deck. The problem is getting the thing in the first place.
  10. Hope someone here can answer this query. I have a wooden deck out the back of the house and a rabbit has decided to take up residence under it. Due to the slope of the ground and the house walls there is a bit at the back that it can hide in and we can't get at it. It is sending the dog mad as she can't reach it and is trying to dig her way through the deck to get at it. Quite keen to get rid of it as it has taken a liking for all the veggies un the raised beds next to the deck. There is a guy down the road who has ferrets and I was going to ask him if he could help. Do you think that if we net round the two open sides of the deck and stick a ferret under it it will be able to get the rabbit.
  11. I've got General Grabber AT2's on my Izusu Rodeo and they are quiet on the road and never once got stuck in the snow we had last year even pulling Transits out of it. Never had them in the deep mud yet but have worked for every field I've been in so far.

    Clear up time

Far as I know no one hurt but a few cars around the country with dents from bricks, slates and large parts of roofs that were blowing around. Also read someones shed blew onto the railway line near Falkirk.

    Clear up time

Now the wind has died down up here in Scotland it's time to sort out the damage the wind caused. Love staying in the country but boy did we take a battering yesterday from the wind with winds around the mid 80s mph. Probably lucky as it was only my garage door that blew in which should be repairable for a few hundred quid(try holding a 6m wide, 2.5m high door in a gale its fun)and the next door neighbours green house is in the field and garden in bits. At least we had electricity as some of the houses round me lost theirs yesterday morning and it's going to take until this afternoon to get it back on.
  14. There is a lot of confusion about insurance and many people think that if they are fully comp they can drive other cars automatically. Despite what people think this is now becoming less common and the amount of people caught driving without insurance (i.e driving another car under the belief their policy covers it third party) is increasing. The insurance companies generally no longer include this on the policy unless you ask for it. They were getting fed up of a 17 year old paying a policy for a fiesta and then using the third party option to drive their parents much larger, expensive and more powerfull car then crashing it. The only way to be sure is to have him included as a named driver on your insurance policy. It's not worth getting caught with no insurance as up in Scotland the police sieze your car if it is being driven with no insurance so you have to pay to get the car back, the fine for not having insurance then the increased premium the insurance company will charge you.
  15. Hopefully my SGC will arrive soon so I can pick up my new shottie and spend 2012 putting quite a few cartridges through it and hopefully smashing the same number of clays.

    Dry bag Freebee

Just sent mine nothing like some free stuff sure I'll find a use for it.
  17. In Scotland this would have been reported straight to the PF as theres no other option under the guidelines and possibly even careless driving. But if all you got was a £60 fine and three points you've won big style take it and run. My wife got a ticket and all it did was bump up the insurance by £10 a year. Most insurance companies realise that most people will get a ticket at some point as there are so many cameras around. This will change though if you are continually getting tickets or rack up a few.
  18. Bed early as back to work Earlyshift tommorrow after a fortnight's holiday.
  19. Apparently this info didn't come from the Met office but was from the company that has predicted the last couple of winters and the bad summer that the Met office said would be a barbecue summer. Just have to wait and see but they do seem to have a pretty good track record better of getting it right.
  20. Had a couple of weeks holiday so went around some gunshops to see what there was while I waited for my SGC to arrive. Told the wife I was just looking and ended up putting a deposit down on a S/H Lanber sporting delux. She wasn't to chuffed when i got home and made me go clothes shopping with her which cost me the best part of £300. Still got a new motorbike, telescope and chainsaw over the last two years so probably still ahead. I've been told she now needs a new horse so have to wait to see how much that will cost me. Although she has said she would like an air rifle to deal with the rabbits in the field and do a bit of target shooting (she was pretty good as a teenager) so more trips to gun shops although she will be there to stop anything getting a new home.
  21. Did hear that we were to get a winter like last year or worse and that started at this time of the year. Funny though I suddenly became everyones friend for a month as I have a 4x4 pick up.
  22. Just got back from my parents house and someone has done the same to my dads Kia Sorrento and creased the back wing and put a hole in the bumper. It's going to cost him £350 to sort so to say he is not pleased is an understatement. Its funny how people say we should all be banned from driving big 4x4's as they apparently cause problems in car parks and on the road that is until the snow comes then your suddenly everyones best friend.
  23. Tried to open the bonnet of my Izusu Rodeo today and found I couldn't as the A bar was just about touching it. A closer look showed a big dent in the bar and one of the fixing bars was bent. Looks like some ***** has driven into it and then dissapeared. Bar has took the brunt of the hit so thankfully there is no other damage. Half an hour with the spanners and vice and it's sorted still has the dent in the A bar but I can live with that. Best £75 I've spent on Ebay.
  24. Wifes friend does clays at his horse riding centre so after a competition there we stayed a few extra days and I had a go at the clays. Hit the first two singles and the double thrown and got about 18 or so out of the 25. Thought about taking it up but didn't do anything about it. Went shooting a few months later whilst on holiday and instructer said I had a knack for so I applied for my SGC. Now waiting for the SGC to arrive so I can go more often.
  25. Hi after a few weeks of reading the forums thought I would join and say hello. New to shooting and will be doing clays mostly as unfortunatly my field isn't big enough to use a shotgun on for the rabbits and has a couple of cottages at the side of it (however my wife used to like target shooting with an air rifle when she was younger so that could be next on the list to go in the cabinet as she gets very annoyed at planting out all the veggies in the garden to find them all munched the next day). Have applied for my SGC and am getting very impatient waiting on it as I have a Lanber Sporting Delux waiting for me at the RFD. Had my interview with the FEO and there were no problems. Probably helps that (please be kind) i'm a serving cop and the inspector in charge of firearms licensing used to be my Sgt so knows me well. FEO left with some veggies from the garden (had run out of chocolate biscuits) and it all appeared to be going great. However a few days after the FEO's visit I was told there had been a complaint made against my collegue and myself (first in 14 years and had to be now). Spoke to the FEO who said not a problem part of the job and they will continue with processing the application but they will now have to wait until the complaint has been dealt with which could take months. It been nearly three months of waiting so hopefully it can be sorted by christmas and I can get a great christmas present for myself.
