  1. For 8k I'd look at a 300tdi with a galvanised chassis and bulkhead. Won't get the agro and easier to fix than the td5.
  2. A wise man told me. A labrador is born half trained and a spaniel dies half trained. Think he hit the nail on the head. Got a lab never looked back.
  3. Hi Guys, Looking for a cheap .22LR preferably BRNO or CZ with a short barrel around 16" to use in the motor. Doesn't need a scope or moderator gun only will be fine. What have you got? Thanks Brett.
  4. My pup now 17 months old was left from 8 weeks old whilst I worked, she also slept outside from day one and a mighty fine dog she has turned out to be. I know I can leave her anywhere she wont whine complain and will do as she is told. She is woken up at half 7 in the morning walked fed and put in the kennel at 9, she is let out the kennel at 6 and put back in the kennel when I go to bed around 11. Shes done that since 8 weeks old without any problems at all. They also don't get separation anxiety like I see some dogs with.
  5. The slimness of the parker hale fits nicely on my varmint barrel. I did use the bar yes. Im wondering If Ive lost one baffle cleaning it lol. Its on my ticket now as well. If anyone happens to have any baffles lol.
  6. Going rate by me varies from £120 - £180 for a spay. No idea on dew claws.
  7. Hi guys, gave my parker hale moderator a good clean I noted the order everything removed and it seemed first out came a spring then 14 baffles and then a washer. Upon re assembly cup facing towards the exit I put the washer in first then 14 baffles then the spring. This didnt work and it was rattly. I tried a series of combinations and the only thing that would work was washer in first 13 baffles cup facing out then the last baffle facing in with spring on top and screw the cap on. After reading various forum topics some have 17 baffles, I can purchase a replacement set which suggests 15 baffles and I have also seen a few people say there is 14. Some clarification really and how it should be properly assembled. Am I missing anything? I only have 14 baffles 1 spring 1 washer. It all looks lined up and there's no movement in the moderator, would it be ok to use as it is now if nobody can suggest anything else?
  8. I have purchased exactly what I want from a very friendly forum member. Thanks Peck spot on.
  9. Went on the saturday, scurried the dog, shot some clays and purchased lots of goods. The dog did the best out of all, she had a waterproof bed an equafleece, some more training gear and other bits and pieces. Loved it this year really nice day out.
  10. Thanks guys ill keep them in mind If I cant find the 16", really after the 16" for easier car window shots.
  11. My girlfriend has horses so I just walked mine round on the lead and shouted and grabbed the dog etc until she left it
  12. Then when he drops you give him firm discipline until he doesn't drop then allow him to go off the lead. Go walk him around a horse field.
  13. Get a kennel simple as. Kennel insulated and a heater for winter. The dog will love it it gives you a break and when the dog comes in muddy it wont have to come in the house until dry and clean. Honestly wouldn't have it any other way now. Don't get me wrong the dog comes in as soon as I finish work until bed but in the day I know shes safe, not destroying anything and its a place if I have guests etc round she can go up the kennel if they don't like dogs. Makes life simple. oh and get a lab.
  14. Don't let him off the lead until its corrected. Walk him by it and tell him off when he goes for it. Mine rolled in poo once, she got a boot up the backside a telling off and hasn't rolled in it since. She used to eat horse poo so again on the lead walking round the horse poo. She soon got the message when I told her off everytime she went for it.
  15. Not much to ask but need a cz 452 american .17hmr 16" barrel in midlands area. Willing to travel a bit further for the right one. Brett.
  16. Id try break down the behaviour, it may be long winded but at least if he does it wrong he will know. It may work for one dog but not another. This is what id attempt. I bet the dog doesn't whine sitting in the garden next to you on a chair does he? I personally would go outside with a chair sit there for 10 minutes with him next to you and praise if he's quiet. Then put the net up and set the hide up. Sit again and praise if he doesn't do anything again give it 10 minutes. Id do this over the course of a few days. Next introduce the gun to the hide in the garden, sit there if he sits quietly. Maybe throw the odd dummy out in the garden and send him for it. Praise if no whining. Next to the field with the chair. Sit in the field 10 minutes with no whining. If he whines without the hide and the gun then target the whine instantly. Id grab him round the scruff shake and a telling off. Your the boss strong powerful voice intimidate but dont hurt the dog. If he doesnt whine praise and leave the field for another day. Come back again maybe with the nets and set up the hide. No gun just the hide sitting quietly. Next introduce the gun in the hide again sitting quietly. Next the gun in the hide and throw a few dummies out. Do it in stages and see if you can break down the behaviour. Target it as soon as he does it and don't allow any whine at all.
  17. Very good point about the crows, they are nasty and most certainly never send a dog in unless you know 100% that the bird is dead. The same for squirrels. They can give a nasty bite if they aren't dead.
  18. Use it on the edge of the pattern so as not to scare the birds into landing in your pattern.
  19. A lab is born half trained, a spaniel dies half trained Go for the trusty lab!
  20. Introduce the dog to everything that you don't want him to pick up bad habits from and play train as much as you can. Cars, cyclists, runners, cattle sheep horses etc, other dogs over the park but keep the dog under control on the lead. Your the boss not the dog. Mainly focus on a solid sit and recall whilst the dog is young. As you mentioned the dog clings to you now. At 4/6 months old the dog will find its feet and quickly wonder off and do what it wants. I presume you have a whistle? Start off by blowing the sit/stop whistle for a week whilst feeding. She will quickly understand she must sit for food. Then start using the recall whistle every time the dog is fed even if the dog is sat there waiting to be fed. Blow it put the food down and then instruct her to get on to eat the food being your release command. Just from feeding the dog you have introduced sit, stay/stop, recall and release. Drum that sit and recall into that dog there really isnt any other choice. Try to avoid telling the dog more than once. Sit if the dog doesn't sit plant its bum firmly on the ground. Don't recall or sit the dog in situations he is not likely to do. If the dog doesn't listen be firm but don't hurt the dog. Grabbing the dog by the puppy skin on the neck, small shake and return back to where you instructed them to sit etc and tell them sit again. They will quickly understand you are the boss and to listen. At 6 months + id look at starting some informal training 15 mins here or there should suffice. My pup now at 14 months still only gets 30 mins a day training. I find less to be more and she picks things up a lot quicker than if I did hour long training sessions every day.
  21. Take it back to basics, fix the dog before the delivery. Get the sit/stop recall and heel spot on and then work on some fun retrieves. Back to basics rolled up ball of socks in the house in the living room. Lots of encouragement treat the dog like a puppy. Gradually increase the distance of the retrieve as the dog begins to understand. If she drops it encourage her to pick it up again and walk backwards. Don't be afraid to use a treat after she has delivered. If she drops it for the treat a sharp AH! and give the ball a nudge and walk backwards. She will get the hang that she wont get the treat until the ball is back in your hands.
  22. Have you gone from dummies to duck? Always start from dummies and slowly introduce game. Approx order -Rabbit skin dummy -Winged dummy -Cold pigeon in stocking (avoids feather spitting) -Pheasant/duck -Warm rabbit or pheasant or duck -Warm pigeon (feathery) Some dogs will transition quickly, others will need a bit of encouraging. Take the ducks wings off and strap them to your dummy. Then casually play with the dummy whizz it around making a noise hyping her up then throw it out. Forget steadiness let her think its absolutely amazing to retrieve that dummy with the wings. Once she has done it a few times back to serious and go from there moving on to cold game.
  23. This is molly, here about 10 Months now 14 months still only a small lab.
