  3. :good: just got off the phone with the outdoors man and i ordered a few things on sunday afternoon and today on thurday still nothing in the post   , so i rang em up and told em and i seemsthat one of the items i ordered had not been in stock when i ordered (not shown on the website) and after i ordered in the 4 days of waiting i havent had anything to say that it would be delayed no email, message or phonecall :good: And seeing as i payed £7.00 for postage dont think this is acceptable - they wont be gettin my money again :look:

After seeing advertising blurb in various mags etc I decided to seek them out when next in the area, I was disappointed to find a run down little shop with hardly any stock, certainly very little in the way of firearms and two young lads sat in one corner running the place, they were more interested in their mobiles and chatting.

They seemed to concentrate mainly on survival and surplus gear for wannabee soldiers, this was my impression and others may have different views?

My advice would simply be to not bother visiting the shop.

  4. I have recently bought my self a lab. He is now 6 monuths old and is comign along well. I have tested him with the gun and to my joy he was not scared or put off. Having not wanting to be to hard on him at a young age I have only trained him to sit, come back to me on comand and walk to heel.

I live on a dairy farm so walks are long and through big fields with long grass. What I was hoping to find out is what things I should be doing with him when I'm walking and if there are any signs I should be looking out for. As this is my fist time training a dog for the gun I dont want to do any thing wrong.

If any one can give me some comments on what to do I would be most grateful.

Hi imo you shouldnt even be thinking of showing it a gun let alone firing it, you have been fortunate, what would have happened if the pup had run off cowering. There is a mine of information on here regarding training just do some searches and you will find that almost every question has been asked and all answered by experienced and knowledgeable gundog owners....... well most of 'em anyway :good:

There are several very good training books available, pm me if you want a list.

  7. I have recently been shown how to squeek foxes and can now get them to come within thirty feet from me. So far I have not taken a shot on a fox because I would like to know where to place the shot for a clean kill. I shoot a .17 Hmr and have read many articles of people killing foxes with this cal.

Please can anyone offer any advise.

My advise would be now that you have mastered the art of calling them in stop or you will find they have got wise to you and become shy, only call them or flash lamps about if you are going to shoot them.

I do not have a problem shooting fox with .17 hmr, the round is perfectly capable as is .22rf in the right hands within a reasonable range.

  8. Hi all, I'm canvassing opinions again as this is probably one of the broadest spectrums of people I have the pleasure of knowing :good:

I've just sold the CB500 at vast profit and got rid of the Landy to my brother a few weeks ago, unfortunately at a loss :good:

However, this has left a bit of a hole in the household transport and for some time I've been musing over the idea of getting a small diesel van, roughly in the £850 area.

Looking around, there seem to be a hell of a lot at this price and I have to admit to preferring the Ford's.

Does anyone have experience of the either the Courier or the escort based 55 ?

    Cheers,

    Pedro

Some time ago I ran a fleet of vans including both escort 55 and couriers both 1.8D, imo the escort wins hands down, the back end of the courier is skittish, the payload was stated as max 500kgs , but they dragged their butts fully loaded, of the two body and service parts were more available for the escorts and they were more comfortable drive over distances with better roadholding.

THEN I bought some Vauxhall combos 1.7D in max payload, a different beast altogether with better mpg, a tad faster and deffo more comfort in the cab.

As long as its white you can get away with murder ???

  9. I read yesterday that Bob had left the forum due to an argument? Anybody know if this is true?

Its a bit of a longshot but anyone thought that some ill has befallen Bob, he suddenly dissappeared maybe hospitalised, I dont know but a possibility.

Is anyone able to contact him via email or phone? It would clear up the rumours if nothing else.

I wish him all the best anyway :good:

    :good: D2D

  10. Well I have not been pulled in 20 odd years but the fact that it states I could be done while waiting for the thing riled me a bit. Think I will use the P.O next time or renew online earlier. Dear do this driving lark eh?

If we all used our local post offices half of them might not be closed down, just a thought?

  11. 'Mon then, don't keep us in suspenders all day! What was the haul? Some of us have things to be doing :good: And if you ask what I'm sure given time to think about it we'll be able to come up with some ******** or other

He,s still out there looking for the last one, comes with age  sorry LB :yp:

    :good: D2D

  12. There's more to hearing damage than simple deafness  Lovely conditions such as Tinitus can come on after one loud nosie or as a member on here found an ear infection

It's more of a general point I was making to them new to shooting :good:

I totally agree with Johns comments, after years of shooting without protecting my hearing I suffer from Tinitus and cannot stress the importance of using protection to anyone new to shooting, you may feel awkward wearing muffs in the company of old time shooters but believe me you dont want your ears ringing and humming when your trying to sleep at night!!

Wearing ear protection is now the accepted thing but even up to just a few years ago everyone was trying to be discreet, using little bits of foam plugs etc nowadays the norm is multicoloured electronic defenders, money very well spent imo.

  13. All the pundits will tell you that a ratio of 3 (cartridges) to 1 (bird) is about average for pigeon shooting BUT let me tell you that in my experience the average among most pigeon shooters is more like 8/9 (cartridges) to 1 (bird) Just goes to prove you shouldn't believe all you read (on here especially! :thanks: )

My average has been 3 to 1 since I can remember and I dont seem able to better it, it became an obsession at one time abit like a golf handicap I suppose, the birds that "cost" me lost points were left to rights in a 90mph tailwind  For some reason I am unable to make contact with those very well, but shooting with a semi certainly helped in keeping the average up.

    D2D

  14. Do a quick Google on the subject. it seems that there are over 466 odd bods that have a right to enter your home without a warrant. These include Customs & Excise, Fire Brigade, Health & Safety, Food Standards Agency and of course your Local Council snoops.....................bloody disgrace if you ask me.

I think I would perhaps leave them on the doorstep for an hour or two while I "checked" their credentials over the phone, after all we are advised by all and sundry to always check out anyone who comes knocking on the door asking to be let in..... they might be after my pension

  15. yes, ive read that too....not sure id like to though.....

i guess mixy put alot of folk off it..... but other meats have had nasty health scares, bse, avian flue. etc..and people know the rancid condition some chickens and eggs come from.... but they still scoff em down....???

rabbit seems to me, totally organic and completly free range, what more could you want.....?

i just wondered what happened to rabbit to make it fall from favour as a delicious meal to something some people cant even imagine eating ?

everyone my dads age or over, say they used to have it alot, and loved it, some older folk have told me how when they were a child they got the head ! and ate the brains out with a spoon like a chucky egg !!!!!!!!!!!!!! well, im not gonna try that, but the meat is fantastic...

maybe hugh fernley or someone should do an eat healthy, eat rabbit campaighn... like he did with the chickens !!

any other idea's what happened to buggs ??

Eating the brains out of the head with a spoon..... methinks someones been pulling your leg there

Imo rabbit meat will come back into "fashion" its meat is clear of any additives, hormones etc, its lean and rabbits are not stupid they only eat the best as any farmer will tell you. A 3/4 grown young rabbit pan fried takes some beating far better than supermarket chicken.

In a year or two Tescos will have it on the shelf, the reason the heads were left on at the butchers is to confirm its rabbit and not cat ???

When you see wild rabbit on the menu try it, you will go back for more.

  16. They'll take one look at him and break out the shackles.

Nothing less than a public stoning :good:

Nah they,ll transport him to Aus :hmm:

ps I thought that was supposed to be the "legal" way to use a Rodenator as per the guidlines etc, first clear the warren/earths of the inhabitants then collapse the tunnels, what exactly is their problem?

    D2D

  17. I had mine apart a year or so ago, maybe more (.22) there was a bit of grey deposit in there, nothing more than that - why are people cleaning them so often? :hmm:

The main reason was I thought my .22 sounded louder than usual, when it was new it had a nice quiet metallic "ting" but now its a muffled "crack" using subs.

It unscrews from one end and I have tried to knock out the baffles but no go!

Like you I havnt cleaned the mod and it must have had almost a 1000 rounds through it.

I know I need my backside kicked and should know better

  18. Out shooting in Hayle Cornwall on Saturday afternoon early evening, fired my Hmr at a bunny and as i looked up in the next field a white fox sized thingy did a sharp u turn and legged it back up the hill, had a tail not unlike a fox and had it been normal colours would have said a fox, could not get my scope up in time to confirm it. any body else seen any white charlie.

Be careful its not someones Moggy, they move very much like foxes and some are about the same size.

    D2D
