  2. Go to a steep hill. Ascend in too high a gear. If clutch is on its way out - engine speed will rise, but car will slow down, not stall. You will literally hear the clutch slipping.

A better test is to be on level ground and have the handbrake full on, with just a few more revs than usual try to pull away, the clutch may slip a little, but enough for you to hear it before the engine stalls, or the engine will stall immediately which indicates the clutch is not slipping and is fine.

But dont make a habit of doing it though as it puts strain on the uj,s.

Lb is your man for detailed questions, he knows his stuff and will be able to give you the low down without the faffing.

  3. Whats it for mate ? Never seen one before (I am quite young and inexperienced mind) lol!

Bl88dy well done for asking, its the only way to learn and what the forums for.

I used a similar priest in a past life as semi pro picker up, despatched more birds than I want to remember, imo an essential bit of kit especially when in company of squemish people.

Drill a small hole in the handle and hang it with a short lanyard on a belt loop, put it in the pocket and forget about it until needed.

  4. It may be one of those "I haven't noticed it before" things, but I do seem to be seeing a lot more of the green "P" plates on cars.

Most are being driven by young people and I was wondering if its a requirement of some Insurance Companies, I can't imagine the young blokes having them by choice.

They sort of declare, "I have passed my test, but I just scraped through so I need watching".

Naaah their P for Polish silly........

Must be well over 10% young Polish drivers in Ashford now, Mrs D,s company employs hundreds of them, all with cheap english bangers, mostly taxed and legal etc but little or no road savvy.

If its not a legal requirement to display the green P plate after just passing then it should be made so, otherwise how does anyone know to make allowances, imo its a very good idea.

  5. Well here on the Costa del Kent  we have had over a week of continuous sunshine, had to water the flowers most evenings and the ground is showing signs of drought, crop fields have 1" cracks everywhere, its a wonder the plants are finding water but then the early morning dew is quite heavy.

Its the north/south divide as far as the weather is concerned, my father lives in mid Wales and he seldom has a day without cloud or drizzle.

I feel sorry for anyone from Kent who has paid a small fortune recently to have a holiday in the sun, England has alot to offer (but lets not delve too deeply into the political aspect) to anyone who appreciates our green and pleasant land.

Enjoy it, Christmas and the cold wet stuff is fast approaching :hmm:

Already I have seen signs outside pubs etc saying "book your Xmas office party"

  6. Hi all, I too have been unable to log on for last three days, appears I havnt missed much though apart from Mungs pop at Col10 which was amusing in parts.

so why did it happen, anyone know?

Nice to be among the insane again, I was getting paranoid on other forums at what I might be missing, I even tried to gain access via the dark side :sly:

  7. Hi all.

Was just wanting some advice on the above?

I have 2 dummys, one covered in rabbit fur and one in a phesant, she will retreive both without bother.

Although when i tryed her on the real thing (rabbit) Today she just sits and licks it,

I tied the rabbits legs into the body and vise versa with its head.

Any one know how to overcome this? :(

    Cheers

    Lew

Hi Lewis try very short retrieves, lots of praise (even a titbit if you have to) then lengthen the distance as she becomes used to coming straight back to you.

Good luck and be patient B)

  9. £950 for a brand new gun including the optional 10year Beretta warranty is a good saving in anyones book.

The gun was a competition prize and was sold up until last night to a PM stalwart but unfortunately we couldnt quite close the deal.

It may as well go to someone who will use it and appreciate it, since I am mainly interested in rifles and the sale proceeds will fund my next one.

The full spec can easily be brought up on the Beretta site.

  10. No worries. What car are you going to be running it on? I hear that some of the more modern diesels can get knackered by using veg oil - no probs for those of us with proper old workhorses (mine is a '94 plate).

    ZB

  11. Guys

I've seen a lot of threads on here about running old diesels on part veg oil and part diesel. I have been running my fourtrak in this way since august last year, but have watched with horror the price of veg oil rise to roughly that of diesel per litre. The best deal I could find up until today was lidl, who were charging £1.15 per litre. I've just been to waitrose of all places and seen it for 95p per litre ;)

Needless to say, the fourtrak is now fully fuelled! Just thought I would pass that on in case any of you are doing the same and wanted to save a couple of bob.

    ZB

thanks for the info, I shall raid the local Waitrose in the morning

  13. Hi all

    mine from Kent says quote,

".17HMR rifle .17 sound moderator and ammunition shall be used for shooting FOX & VERMIN and for zeroing on ranges,or land over which the holder has lawful authority to shoot"

This includes .22 and .223 calibres. The caps are as appear on the cert.

  14. Well, just a random post to ask any of you guys if you have any tips on how to keep Bread fresher for longer, as it seems that every loaf which is bought in the house last like 3 days then goes mouldy. The bread is kept in the packaging, which is shut in a cupboard.

May seem daft, but may aswell ask.

    Alex :lol::hmm:

During the summer months we keep ours on the top shelf in the fridge, its not quite as cold as bottom shelf and it stays fresh for alot longer.

The birds in my garden are like Whippets, they dont get any bread

  15. Back in my boyhood with a Webley mk3 I used to shoot old lightbulbs on the waste tip of the local chicken farm, they made quite a bang exploding.

Then as dusk fell the rats started coming out, easier to shoot as I had zeroed on the lightbulbs already.

Recently with the .223 I have been using the targets that show up yellow at the bullet strikes, just added another dimension and is far easier to spot from a distance.

On Saturday I shot at the local military range, a distance of 300m/375yds this was the longest shot I have taken and scored well imo, interesting though I was able to compare the military 5.56mm ball with Federal V shoks and no wonder the army use so much ammo, the factory ammo was bang on but the military stuff was way out, good only for falling plate targets they told me later!!!

Sorry to digress but still feeling chuffed with saturdays performance.

  16. OK, I have a lightforce 170 lamp that has come with the standard on of switch inline to the power source.

I have a spare Deben Dimmer switch/lead from a Tracer Max where the switch is on a spur of the lead between the lamp and power source.

What would be the best way mate the lightforce lamp and the deben dimmer leads.

The easy option would seem to be to cut the lead at the rear of the lightforce lamp and add a block connector that is the same as on the deben lead but looking at the deben website I can see the connectors for sale, does anyone know if they are and where I can get them?

Other options I can think are:

1: Cut the lead just behind the lamp and remove the plug from the end of the dimmer lead and splice the two leads together to make a permanent connection

2: Slice the spur with the dimmer onto the original lightforce lead.

3: Any suggestions for good secure block connectors to use similar to the Deben ones?

    What are the forum’s thoughts/suggestion?

    Thanks

    Jerry

  17. Just wondering how many people on here are BASC members. If you are please just leave a brief reply to indentify yourself.

I'm just curios to see how widespread BASC membership is in our online shooting community, just satisfying my own curiosity

Having been a member for years, the insurance is worth having for peace of mind alone, imo it is irresponsible to shoot without some form of insurance in place.

I also get the Custodian quarterly mag, any forum members who are actively involved in keepering should consider enroling with BASC as gamekeeper members, there are extra benefits.

  18. Hair drier

Used to use a hair drier to remove signwriting etc from vans even after they had been baked in the sun etc for 3 yrs.

Do it inside a garage etc to get max heat from drier, wd40 cleans up the residue.
