  1. Make sure you get the same form of filament(vertical or horizontal) as it will alter the shape of the beam !

You can put either filament in, it depends if you prefer a tighter spot or a flood beam.

The wattage however is critical depending upon the model of lamp you have.

Deben genuine bulbs in my experience do not last any longer but cost far more, the choice is yours.

  4. Young man .

your thougts of regret at shooting a pigeon is a good thing . You are showing compassion that is lacking in lots of people these days . I can clearly remember many years ago when i shot my first deer . I have never felt such regret in all my life as i did shooting my first buck . I have never enjoyed the actuall killing of deer although the thrill to me is the stalk . I still sometimes have regrets in making the kill and have on occasion deliberately not made the shot . Carry 0n with your shooting and i will bet that you will make a good hunter because you have compassion and you will learn to respect your quarry . Best of luck to you . Harnser .

I can only echo Harsners words as he sets it out about right, most of us have deep feelings for whatever quarry we decide to shoot, on the other side of the coin are the numerous "videos" that appear regularly on you tube, and a few on here, boasting of long shots and creatures being blown to pieces accompanied by laughter and shouts of glee, these people sadden me.

You carry on the way you are and over the years hopefully you in turn will pass on the respect to newcomers, our sport is all the richer for "thinking shooters".

    My ten pence worth :good:

  5. What calibre are you shooting?

Good lamp, the 170 Striker is better for foxing but the Lance will do the job as well. Just don't put a 100W bulb into the lance housing as it will scorch the reflector and ruin the performance.

    Evening chaps...

Does anyone know the Osram (or similar) part number(s) for a replacement 100w 12v bulb for a LightForce Striker lamp?

I know you can get them direct from Deben, but I'd like to try and source one localy before having to wait for online delivery!

    Cheers :P

  6. We rarely get real snow in the SEast anymore, but back in the 60s/70s when we did, I have often used the same tactics as your friend, but with pieces of canvas tarp.

Now, when there has been a slight fall, I always look for the lea side of woods and high hedges, anywhere sheltered and showing some greenery, thats where the pigeons will be.

During heavy snow storms, I have had some excellent shooting in the woods.

Most birds don't like flying in heavy snow, rain, or fog.

Snowflakes falling very lightly but sun is shining brightly, so no chance of it laying.

  7. If you want a priest, look no further......

    >>> Priest for sale <<<

Made to order and a variety of wood available, laburnam, Yew, Cherry, walnut and Rhododendron

All made by me in my shed

    PM me if your interested

The priest looks the business and quite well made, certainly as good as any commercial ones available, maybe a refinement would be a small hole drilled in the handle end and a lanyard fitted to attach it to a belt loop, it could then be carried in a pocket ready for use but not put down or lost.

For many years I picked up on several large estates, where etiquette was important, despatching more Pheasants and Ducks than I care to remember and this arrangement served me well.

Also the same priest can be used when Fly fishing etc during the summer months.

  8. I'm a subscriber to ST, Sporting Shooter, The Field and Sporting Rifle. I am also a BASC, CLA, NFU and CA member. For topical, accurate and well-written entertainment and news, ST leads by a country mile.

The BASC mag is dull, in my opinion. I read it thoroughly, and on occasion (like the article on trespass in the current issue) it is damned useful. However a lot of the content is out of date by the time it lands on my doorstep.

I agree the BASC mag is dull, it lacks useful articles of interest to us ordinary shooters and has too many highbrow ads, the quarterly Custodian mag from BASC is a competely different take on shooting and game management, its aimed at Keepers but imo the BASC should be including this with normal membership as part of the main mag.

  9. Ok, slot opened up under the 30 day rule.

So, any final words of advice before I go shopping?

I want a light rifle, short but heavy barrel (something that will poke out the window of the truck and fire off plenty before getting hot).

P.S. Steyr Scout Tactical Elite with heavy stainless barrel now deffo go to go and the clock will be running.

"Something that will poke out of the truck and fire off plenty before getting hot"... now its either going to be a heist  or your being attacked by a tribe of marauding foxes  , how many .223 rounds are you thinking of firing in quick succession from a truck, or are you even going bunny bashing with .223 :yp:

  10. It does not say whether or not its 12volt.

the battery measures 8"x4" so I would imagine its a 12 volt one

as a 6volt battery I once had with another light was considerably smaller.

Its very powerful beam that lasts forever.

    Doug

My Clulite has a 6v battery and its the same size but narrower than the 12v by comparison, if thats any use to you.

  12. does anybody know where to go green laning in kent or east sussex

We get seriously pi**ed off with a little convoy of 6 or so 4x4,s frequently out on our patch TN26/7, sat pm and/or sun am, who think its their god given right to deviate across any stubble, woodland track etc taking down or removing anything in the way, churning up organised toll rides meant for horses, forcing walkers into the hedge/ditch (which they think is hilarious). Most insurance policies do not cover offroad driving so it would not be goodnews if someone or their dog were to be injured.

They, and I hope one of them is reading this, will despite the cit band radios, soon be sorted by the rural plod squad who have been tasked to end their regular sorties. Even to the extent of staking out the Ashford Tesco jet wash and nearby Mac D,s where they wash down and trough :hmm: ....... so be warned not everyone shares the same enthusiasm for "greenlaners".

Im not a killjoy by any means, always had 4x4 and enjoy offroad driving, but by invitation and legally.

  14. Anybody catch the Radio 4 Food Programme on rabbits today?

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00dqctd/

It seemed reasonably sympathetic to shooters.

Question though, not having done it myself yet, is the advice they offer on preparation of newly shot rabbits what you experienced blokes do?

Is there a case for someone posting the definitive "How to do it" for rabbits on here?

Second thing you do is push the piddle out of it, whats the first thing you do?? :hmm:

    :good: D2D

do the double, check its dead!! neck cracker!

THAT MAN WINS THE PRIZE.. out the other night with the team and eager to get on,was running my thumb down the belly of the umpteenth one, when I realised it was looking at me.... felt awful for all of 3  seconds, good job it doesnt happen very often.
