  1. :/ I have an 11 year old english pointer, she is senile, has cataracts and has some dodgy looking tumours growing on 2 of her teats.

She has been a fantastic dog over the years but now has taken to growling continuously at the other pointer and my jack and she keeps kicking off at them both, the younger pointer looks like she has been shot in the face she has that many puncture wounds, even though we are trying our hardest to keep them separated.

My kids are getting distressed by it and i got bitten separating them on the weekend. Broken skin only slight but huge bruise, these are powerful dogs. Im now frightened for the welfare of my children, my wife is adamant that she wont have her put down.

They kicked off again tonight and the excuse she used is that we cant afford to price of her being put down and disposed of.

I have had enough. Is there any law that says i cant take her for " one last hunt" and not come back with her, if you know what I mean. I have the necessary tools available, it would be swift and humane, but is it legal? I would bury her on one of my permission and not actually do the deed myself.

Elvis you have my sympathy, when I was a boy my father had to put down his old Lab,the dog was in pain and could hardly walk

vets in those days were for emergencies and bigger jobs,he didnt have a rifle then, so he used his shotgun one evening after taking the old boy for his last walk(hobble) across our field.

He didnt want me to go with him but I heard the shot and some time later my father came back to the house and we could see that he was very upset, later he told me that it was not so much having to put the old boy down but the damage the shotgun had done to him.

Whatever you decide save yourself a little of the upset and do dont use a shotgun.

    All the best

  2. Oooo ello. What a strange memory you have.

Tell it how it was - "Yeah I said something sarcastic" actually means I said something daft and got responses accordingly.

It happens. Suck it up and move on.

No point in arguing with you, you always think your right just the same way as an anti would think.

DF it's because you post nonsense (as above). However, it is your right to do so and your opinion is your own and you are perfectly entitled to it. That's why it's an open forum.

NEWSFLASH ! Mung is an anti !!!:lol: What are you anti Mungler ? :birthday:

DF, press the buzzer and ask the nurse for some more meds !! :birthday::yay:

Oh another essex person misinterpreting I didnt say he was an anti, I said he THINKING in the same way an anti would.

    DF,

I may be "another essex person" but you are a total "one off" !

Oh dear and only hours into the new year, mungs an anti whatever next. The man is nuts about shooting :yay:

I can visualise Cranfield with his head buried in his hands.......... :)

  3. All I want is to live to be very old, in good health and with a few quid more than i need in my wallet (fat chance with this government :cry1: )

Happy new year to everyone

  4. Dont know if this has been posted today, but anyway:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/lancashire/7166063.stm

    More bad publicity.

Were they robbing the pub, unlikely as new years morning would have been more fruitful or after the bloke who was injured?

Either way the WPC did her job and full marks to her a brave girl,I hope she very soon recovers.

It brings up the old chestnut though, should she have been armed and therefore better able to tackle these idiots.

    Just my thoughts and musings.

  5. went out yesterday to sort out as many tree rats as possible,

fantastic result got 44 pp well chuffed, but i need to destroy 200 plus dreys so i was thinking about using drain rods or chimney sweep poles if it is legal and i would only do this before the song birds etc start to nest.

    wol

WOL drain or sweeps rods sound the bizzo til you try them, they will go up 10ft then twist and fold, poking you in the ear on the way down again :cry1: They are designed to be ultra bendy to go where no rod has gone before!!

Lofting poles are what you need, just dont get the end shot off :good:

Good result on the Treerats so far

    D2D

  6. Hi folks,

I bought a cheapie MP3 player in Tesco, despite it being ever so slightly pinkish :good: I had high hopes for it. Turns out the volume is absolutely rubbish. If I have my tv on at a volume level that's hard to hear the MP3 can't get above it when connected to my (what I think is good quality) Callmaster plug in speaker. Balls to you Tesco.

So, I need a decent quality small (I carry enough gear as I am) MP3 player so I can use my newly downloaded (Varmintal) MP3 calls. Can't cost the world though

    What do ye reccomend?

    Thanks in advance,

    John.

PS, any other sources of downloadable MP3 calls would be good too besides Varmintal

John, I bought an mp3 from asda together with a set of amplified speakers in their sale a year ago, £20 the lot it works fine, the player sits in the speakers and they fold up for carrying.

They were white but splashed some green paint on them and look and sound the biz.

  7. Thanks to some help and advice from some guys of off PW and other outside of PW I have finally (tomorrow) purchased my Shooting Wagon. It's a G Reg defender 90 ragtop. v6 essex conversion, five speed manual box,3 inch lift, new tyres and brakes. All for much less than £2k.

A few things that I would like to do to it and perhaps some of you have advice before registering on a Landy Forum

    1. I want to paint it NATO green. hand painted of course. Suggs has advised me to sand it down a little and then apply paint. Where do I get the NATO green paint from?

    2. I want to add chequering to the sills. What is the best online accesories shop for that kind of stuff?

    3. The from drivers door has a small leak, the door seals need replacing. Is it worth it? Or is this a feature?

Can you guys think of anything else?

    Cheers

Lee if you fit any chequering get the pre blacked stuff, i made the mistake and matt hammerited it but it still flakes off in places after power washing so go for the black stuff, the moon doesnt glint off it.

Also if you are going to do any serious lamping fit a switch to the brakelights, deactivate them on entering a field and you become untrackable to anyone watching you especially using ir sights.

Hope this helps/gets you thinking

  8. Instead of looking back, what do you want to do in the coming year.

Are you going to go hunting boar in Eastern Europe ?

Do you intend to go pigeon shooting more ?

Lessons with a clay coach to sharpen you ?

    Well...........??

I have been keeping the vermin, pigeon and rabbit down on a large farm for 6-7 years now and get invited to the farmers pheasant shoot. He puts a couple of hundred down and has 2 shoots a year. I think he could get another 2 days in and let them and cover his costs.

Of course he will be too busy farming to feed/trap etc. so will need someone to do that.............

.........So this year I will be making the appropriate noises

All I want is to live to be very old, in good health and with a few quid more than i need in my wallet (fat chance with this government  )

Happy new year to everyone

  9. Well Suzy you have certainly burst my bubble, I was saving up for the tunnel toll :lol:

    D2D

i was in your neck of the woods yesterday

but you would have been safe. i never got out of the car

  10. I know that the police sometimes make mistakes but i don't think they would ever shoot someone unless they thought that the person was a direct threat so the police must have believed the suspect posed an immediate threat to them or the public, even if it was a legal owner they must have done something to force the police to shoot.

    ss12

You start waving guns around, your going to get shot dead.... seems a perfectly good warning to the idiots on the street imo.

    :good: D2D

  11. I was writing my reply as NTTF was doing his, now it just looks like I've copied!

    Tuck.

I dont for a moment think that anyone would say you copied NTTF,s post, all you have done is reinforced the general opinion, and that can only be a good thing.

This is one of the things I enjoy about the forum there are so many minds, together with personal experiences to draw upon.

    Priceless, you couldnt buy it.

    :good: D2D

  12. I went out for an nights lamping in the Landy with my .22 semi and forgot the mags, had plenty of ammo.... just had to feed it.... round ... by ... round... by...round.... sitting in the cab, fumble fumble drop a round swear etc etc.

    Did I kick myself.

    :good: D2D

  13. ^Nearly! :sly:

There are little lugs in it. How do they fit ie do they ride on top of the rails, or do they go underneath it? If it's underneath, I can't make it fit cos the windage/elevation screw puts it in the wrong place. Am I making sense? What am I missing?

Thanks for the help by the way.

Will PM you to save boring everyone else to sleep

  14. The bit I am interested to know about is the long thin "strut" which appears to locate somehow in the groove in the bottom of the housing. It's a Max. I can't seem to get it to locate, and it seems to be the strut which braces against the casing to allow the windage/elevation screw to work. Mine is a second hand unit, so there's no going back, I just want to get it back together. Aaaagh! I feel a right plonker!

The strut at the bottom fits into a slot moulded into the outer casing. Just in front of the power cable exit hole.

Hope this puts you out of your misery :sly:

    YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

    xxxxsuzy

Well Suzy you have certainly burst my bubble, I was saving up for the tunnel toll :sly::lol:

  16. Anyone? C'mon, someone must have a tracer that they can whip the screws out of and tell me how to fit it back together.

Just took my max apart and the end of the plastic screw adjuster is held in with a tiny split pin to stop it jumping out?

This might be a later mod as its only about 6 months old, it would appear impossible to screw it off without breaking something.

Now that I have it apart I have noticed that the actual lamp reflector is fixed way off centre, something that has bothered me before and caused the quarry to always be on the fringe of the beam, I have meant to have a look at it many times and Tucks plea has made me do it.

The max only seems to have an effective vertical adjustment with a very small windage adjustment so I am going to return it and ask for another/refund, I do prefer my old Lightforce 170 which has the beam focus ability.

  17. I personally always recommend the Cobra Merlin for a gen1 sight. You can use them as a handheld viewer or attach them to a scope, there are a variety of extra illuminators and lenses available for them. I do sell them, but this isn't a sales plug, I use one on my .22 and also as a spotter when using my Javelin on the .223 for foxing.

A reputable reseller will test them for tube quality etc, before sending them out.

    Will pm you Thanks
