  1. A very interesting article, makes a change from the Mail :look:

The stats given for the successful 900yds kill  are impressive, windage and elevation we all understand but whats Drag Coefficient?

In the article it says that each Infantry batt will have 16 trained snipers, thats 576, obviously someone has had a rethink on tactics and as the article points out we are reverting to1914-18 sniper warfare.

  2. I can see this being made into a soap, the names being changed of course..... it beats Emmerdale :look:

Seriously though do we know how the night went yet? Did take the advice and act sensibly or did he go in there with the Gary Owen playing at a full gallop?

    D2D

  3. Earl was outclassed its as simple as that, 72 secs and 36 punches, he landed less than 5 on Khan and was decked twice.

Still worth watching though :look: the ref imo did the only thing he could to save Earl some serious damage.

  4. Tchibo are selling the Yukon 2x24 IR Night Vision scopes again, tested one tonight and at £69 with a 3yr warranty, also 3month no quibble return policy, its good value IMO.

There were some posts on these back in Dec 06 and they were quite favourable so I bought one today and out to 50yds it was clear in pitch black, further out it was picking up eyes easily.

    D2D

    Here is a link:

I have a set and am pleased with it though add more light by using a ifra red filter on my lamp. With the filter on my tracer max spotting fox out at 150m is possible.

I do not believe these are by Yukon and I have not yet found a cage to attach the monocular to my day scope to make it into a NV scope. If it were a Yukon then that is an easy adaption to make.

But for the money you cant complain.

    Jerry

Hi Jerry, the item is being sold on the well known e site, ref.2901 8935 0152 and listed as Yukon. I assumed the seller who has lots of them knew his stuff. The price he wants for them will shock you

I have tried mine tonight with an IR filter on the Pro lamp and as you say its good out to 150yds.

  6. I have found that using the Parallax ring also helps to determine the approx range you are shooting at, ie to take a shot at 100yds when the scope is set at 75yds from the last shot and now is blurred slightly, it is gradually twisted until the target becomes crystal clear then the approx range can be read off. ie 100yds. Then elevation adjustments can be factored in depending upon the ammo being used, especially if it is subsonic.

I bought a scope from a prof stalker and he had marked the parallax ring down to 10yd increments and it seems to work for me.

Once you start to experiment or go out with someone experienced then its no longer a mystery, but trying to get the info from a book can be a bit bewildering.

    Hope this helps a little.

  7. Hi all, just been completely ripped off on that fleabay site and would like to get 'in touch' with the seller.

Story goes thus...kids want one of them new ipod 3rd generation nano's each for chrimbo. No probs, I know just the place.

One turns up, completely genuine. Next, from this seller - dodgey as can be.

Yes, I did check feedback - over 200 sales and not a problem.

It seems they have just returned from a little shopping trip abroad with a bag of **** copies and proceeds to mail them all out at once. Hence now his feedback has dropped lower than a flatfish's belly button!! Oh, and this morning, "no longer registered with fleapit aution site".

Paid for on Paypal and started a dispute file - 20 days for decision!!!!

    His tag is centralperk2903.

His name is Robert Murdoch and Arundel, West Sussex was mentioned in his profile.

If anyone has any dealings - could you forward an addy etc.?

Also, is there a way of tracing a location from e-mail addresses?

And just to finish my day - I'm 40 as well.......

    Cheers all,

    Steve.

Hi Steve I had some **** a little while ago and emailed cust serv on said site, they gave me a contact number and I went from there. An excellent tip on the cheque idea Thanks AC.

I know how you feel. But going to the Maldives will help soften the pain, fantastic diving ,"no news and no shoes" is about right.

  8. Taking an average of the list posted by cranfield, adding my grannies age, divided by the number of pigeons I shot last wednesday, then halved, equals the number of times Santa,s been stuck in a chimney, MUST BE 1369

So there you have it scientifically worked out and cannot fail to win, 1369 give or take several hundred.

  9. How much is the postage for each parcel?

I have used Payperdrop a few times. Only £4.99 and they collect. The parcels are delivered by DHL.

..... "delivered by DHL " or not as is the case sometimes, you do know that in the trade DHL stands for Damaged Hidden or Lost dont you?

    D2D

  10. as the old saying,,,,,,

A Lab is born half trained A Spaniel dies half trained

or another,,,,,,,,Life is too short for Carp fishing or training Spaniels, need I say more

Good stuff PAV, I thought that one had died out. Its Labs for me everytime although a good trained dog will be very hard to come by.

Good luck with the search but make sure its from working stock whichever way you decide to go.

  11. Well after some messing around this morning couldn't see anything that looked like a starter motor cable under the car so left it at that as didnt want to start unscrewing anything trying to get a better look. Dad spent most of the day on to the garantee people and phoned the local dealership, who suggested Landrover Assistance who can come out and have a better idea of things diagnostically. Eventually decided to give the AA a go again and hope they could do something in the light. This time though it was a contractor rather than the actual AA man. Out comes the ol' bit wire and hook to try and catch the door handle, no joy. HE would have tried charging the battery but as the LED was still flashing on the dash, its still got power. Different thing about this chap was that he was phoning back to base to check on any other solutions. Well on the centre console there is a central locking button, easier to push that than try to hook the handle, which was proving to be a right ****.

So the chap managed to push this button with the wire, nothing happened apparently. Then he had a walk round the car and tried pressing the fob again and the bloody thing opened!!!!! The guy really persivered with it and said it was one of the hardest lock-outs he's had. So Dad saw him alright with a tenner for a few pints, as it would have cost him alot more for a one off fee call out for Landrover assistance to come out and try something with the wires in the tail gate.

So the best option was while the engine was running, take it straight into the local dealership, leave it over night and get them to do the full diagnostic on it and try and solve this. Its better sat there in the morning than at home, with hee haw we could do if it did this again.

Thanks to one and all for replying and offering advice and to LB for checking with his technician for me today.

Hi GB how did he get to access the button on the centre console, did he manage to force the window down?

I ask purely as I have TD5 and would like to know should it ever happen to me. (and I cant get hold of LB :lol: )

  12. The problem I frequently have is Horse riders who are supposed to follow a designated and very well marked route along the edge of our shoot. Some of them, "who know the landowner well", insist upon investigating any shooting going on and deviate several hundred yards only to pop out of a gap in the hedgerow close by the hide, on an obviously distressed horse that has been forced ever closer to the sound of shots and then just sitting there watching us. This then requires me/us to stop shooting and go and ask politely if we can help them to find their way back to the toll ride.

The lack of intelligence or is it arrogance beggers belief, :good::lol:

Sorry if I have gone off topic but the other question now is how do we stand shooting near legally designated bridleways are they to be treated in the same way as a highway?

  13. I have just bought a new phone, SE K800i, and it comes with a "hands free kit" ie. a set of earphones and a press button mic, is that all that hands free requires to be to be above the law ??

H if you get a parrot you wont go wrong,Ive had one since they first came out, its very good, clear as a bell and you can "log" several blutooth phones into it for the occasions when someone else uses your car. and as said it can be easily moved when you change the car. Its probably the best on the market at the mo.

  14. There is nothing worse than a "don't you know who I am?" or "my [insert friend or relative] is very senior in the [insert details of freemason lodge, church, police force, local authority]" type of person.

Rather than argue with someone like that, just go for extreme vulgarity.

"Why don't you **** right off you old **** before I come over there and smack 7 bells of **** out of you".

Will make you feel better and provided he isn't recording it, well you can write the most polite letter to your FAO and deny all knowledge.

Ive changed my mind about you mung,:lol::lol:

  15. I have seen it so many times and yet it never fails to make me smile, not being a techno can it be printed off?

It would look good framed on my study wall.... whoever engineered the photo has a real sense of humour.

If you right click on the picture and select " Save image as.....", then chose to save it to My Pictures on your PC.

Then you can do what you like with it....................................delete it would be a good idea.

Thanks for that.... but seriously it is funny if you have not seen it before and is worth having just as a conversation piece.

  16. I'm with Evo on this one. Absolutely right about charging the battery via the starter. Useful tip.

Spare batt and jump leads for an instant result, wouldnt have to wait for the charger to boost the vehicle batt?

I have Disco TD5 and now Im worried :sick:

  17. i recently bought a brand new fabarm euro 3 semi auto a lovely gun etc , but ive had a few problems with it jamming always fires the 1st shot then the empty cart, is getting stuck in the chamber , ive tried different shot sizes the only thing it seems to fire no bother is number 6, 36grms has any one else had a semi auto that would only take a 36grm load i think the teal and woodcock would be in bits if i used the number 6, 36grm loads on them :good: i think ive had my day with semis and thinking of going for a o/u

    Hi MB

I have had this with my Franchi out Pigeon shooting and was using it everyday it eventually developed the problem you described

the answer I found was regular cleaning with Hoppes no9 Semi Auto fluid, no residue or gunk build up and its been fine now and hasnt played up since.

I used the same on my Anshutz semi .22 which again has never jammed.
