Mrs P. the boy and the dogs were with me and had to climb out over the bonnet. Needless to say, they weren't impressed

Thank God for the local farmer who towed me out and dragged me up and down the road until it started <_<

  2. DON'T **** IN BED

This is a story about a couple

    that

had been happily married for years. The only friction in

    their

    marriage was the husband's habit

    of

farting loudly every morning when he awoke. The noise would

    wake

    his

    wife

and the smell would make her eyes water and make her gasp for

    air.

Every morning she would plead with him to stop ripping them

    off

because it was making her sick. He told her he couldn't stop

    it

    and

that it was perfectly natural. She told him

to see a doctor; she was

concerned that one day he would blow his guts out.

The years went by and he continued to rip them out. Then one

Thanksgiving morning as she was preparing the turkey for

    dinner

    and he was

upstairs sound asleep, she looked at the bowl where she had

    put

    the

    turkey

innards and neck, gizzard, liver and all the spare parts and

    a

    malicious

    thought came to her.

She took the bowl and went upstairs where her husband was

    sound

asleep and gently pulling back the bed covers, she pulled

    back

    the

elastic waistband of his underpants and emptied the bowl of

    turkey

    guts

    into his shorts.

Some time later she heard her husband waken with his usual

    trumpeting, which was

followed by a blood curdling scream and the sound

    of

frantic footsteps as he ran into the bathroom. The wife could

hardly control herself as she rolled on the floor laughing,

    tears in her

    eyes!

After years of torture she reckoned she had gotten him back

pretty good. About twenty minutes later, her husband came

downstairs in his bloodstained underpants with a look of

    horror

    on his face. She bit

    her

lip as she asked him what was the matter.

He said "Honey, you were right. All these years you have

warned me and I didn't listen to you."

"What do you mean?" asked his wife. "Well, you always told

    me

that one day I would end up farting my guts out, and today it

    finally

    happened.

But by the grace of God, some Vaseline, and these two

    fingers,

I think I got most of them back in

    NTTF <_<

  3. I havnet my .22lr yet but i will be buying a couple of sub HP finding the most accurate and everything will be shot with that.

Obviously a .22HV HP has more energy but messing around with tradjectorys and different types of bullet gets messy with one bullet you dont need to clean between changes rezero or whatever you just shoot it.

I would not take a shot at a Fox with subsonic and a mod unless the range was under 50yds,

my best rounds using Anshutz 525 semi auto are Remmington Yellow Jacket Hyper velocity for Fox and Winchester subsonic with mod for Rabbits. Its worth experimenting with different makes as they do perform differently in particular rifles.

When out with the .22 I carry one mag of each and take the mod off and change mags if an opportunity for a shot at Fox arises, I agree that the drop between the rounds is a serious consideration but if out Foxing I would use the .223.

  4. Hi All, Firstly i'd like to say what a great forum and full of lot's of great info and helpful people.

I've been shooting for almost 3 years now and over the last 2 have really taken to decoying, I have around 200 acres to shoot over but the trouble is I'm on a friends grandparents land and are only able to go once a blue moon when he's not busy and accompanied. I've done the knocking on doors bit, sent letters and e-mailed but it seems almost impossible to find some land here in kent, everywhere is aready taken by syndicates or well established guns. I'm keen to learn the technique of decoying from an experienced gun and wondered if anyone in this forum would like to take me under their wing (excuse the pun) and take me out on a few days decoying and help me in my search for land. I would ofcourse be more than happy to share my available land once I do get permission. I'm obviously fully insured, sensible and more than happy to travel. Thanks for reading

PS To my last post asking where in Kent you where, it would be helpful to your cause if you filled out your profile fully, age especially....... as pointed out not many would agree to taking out a complete stranger with a gun.

You may have to take things slowly until you build a rapport with someone, but I am sure you will have some success on this forum, we all think along the same lines. :)

    D2D

I'm in the Tenterden/Tunbrige wells/Ashford area but more than willing to travel further a field. I shall fill out a profile as you suggested. many thanks

PM me with your exact location and some background re experience, I am not too far away and may be able to take you out for a day. :P

  5. Me and the old chap were having a bit of a disagreement over these dogs earlier. I was saying that I've seen black labs that are quite small before, and he thinks they are all Golden retriever sized. You can get smaller ones can't you? How easy would it be to judge from parents how big a dog will be? My dad's very small, and doesn't like the idea of walking something he can't hold on to if he has to! The one I'm thinking about was just a bit bigger than an english bull terrier

Edit...The one my dad is referring to was like a chesapeake (spelling?) bay retriever, rather large!

One of my pet hates is the uninformed, usually in newspaper articles, referring to a "Golden Labrador",

Does make me cross......... glad to have got that off my chest :/:)

  6. :/

Nelson Mandela is sitting at home watching TV and drinking a beer when he hears a knock at the door. When he opens it, he is confronted by a little Chinese man, clutching a clip board and yelling, "You Sign! You sign!"

Behind him is an enormous truck full of car exhausts. Nelson is standing there in complete amazement, when the Chinese man starts to yell louder. "You Sign! You sign!"

Nelson says to him, "Look, you've obviously got the wrong man", and shuts the door in his face.

The next day he hears a knock at the door again. When he opens it, the little Chinese man is back with a huge truck of brake pads. He thrusts his clipboard under Nelson's nose, yelling, "You sign! You sign!"

Mr Mandela is getting a bit hacked off by now, so he pushes the little Chinese man back, shouting: "Look, go away! You've got the wrong man! I don't want them!" Then he slams the door in his face again.

The following day, Nelson is resting, and late in the afternoon, he hears a knock on the door again. On opening the door, there is the same little Chinese man thrusting a clipboard under his nose, shouting, "You sign! You sign!"

Behind him are TWO very large trucks full of car parts. This time Nelson loses his temper completely, he picks up the little man by his shirt front and yells at him; "Look, I don't want these! Do you understand?

You must have the wrong name! Who do you want to give these to?"

The little Chinese man looks at him very puzzled, consults his clipboard, and says:

[Get your Chinese accent ready .....]

    "You not Nissan Main Dealer?"

Good clean joke, raised a chuckle or two :):P

  9. Remember that buisness with the petrol a couple of weeks ago?

Well, my Mondeo had developed a judder at around that time. When I accelerated "hard" it used to lurch slightly and then pick up.

Anyway I watered it down as much as I could with Shell petrol and it improved slightly, so I just ran it round and tried to use the tank up before refilling.

Last night i filled up again from Shell and bingo, no judder at all. Infact the car seems to be performing a LOT better :good:

So I have decided never to use Tesco fuel again. Even when it was "good" it isn't as good as Shell.

    Anyone else had similar thoughts?

Years ago when Noah was a boy there used to be an advertising jingle "Keep going well with Shell" anyone going to be brave enough to admit remembering it?:P

  10. A good bar I hope!

K if you want a break down of the cost of the course I will get it for you - but remember not all of that goes to BASC - a chunk of it goes to the indipendent assessor for your certificate.

In terms of the course itself I think we are or were the cheapest option.

I am affraid that people do not work for free! The law says you need a certificate- thats that. We offer a course the NGO offer a course- and now loads of individulas offer the course.

Costs would include the materials used on the course, the venue, the cost of delivering the course.

Are you saying that BASC should NOT deliver courses?

Perhapse this is a topic for debate-

    1. the value of the current meat handeling course .....and ....

    2 Should BASC deliver courses....

answers on a post card if we do not have a conference....

    D

david i now no i do need this cert but for a long time after the course noone else was bothering

its only it the past few weeks have the game dealer been asking for proof of the course and for that i thank you

  12. The only reason I will be attending is if Paul finds another 2 free tickets. I was not inpressed with it at all. Avoiding the chavs and the village fate bric-a-brac stalls. The weather didnt help either.

I must admit though, i did hear that last years was quite alot better, but with better fairs available I dont see the point.

Hi Axe let us know where these fairs are, Im sure a few of us are interested in going to some different events, always good to hear whats happening, if we know in advance instead of reading about it we might get a chance to go. But like everything these days if there are no supporters these local events may disappear.

  13. Hi all.....great forum with loads of good reads :good:

I'm just looking for your opinions on opening the breech of my first shotgun that I have fairly recently bought. Its a 12g Lanber Field which I am well pleased with :o .....although havent been able to use it too much as ive been away since Christmas when I got it  ..... but bring on the Easter hols an i'l be out everyday with it! :)

Its a lovely gun but the only slight problem with it, is that its quite stiff to open and close the breech, you really have to grip it along the barrels to get a bit of extra leverage. Although I obviously knew this when I got it, it was a good price and the gundealer assured me it would loosen up after putting a few cartridges through it. Ive been away since Christmas and have only managed to round off about 70 cartridges since gettting it.

My question, is it fairly common for a gun to be stiff to open and close when brand new? Does it really need 'running in' or has the gundealer sold me a right kipper?

    Thanks

When it does finally loosen up remember the correct way to open and close it, "stock to lock"

That is to hold the barrels firmly pointing at the ground and bring the stock up to them to close the gun, if yours is stiff the last thing would be to wave the barrels around struggling to open the gun.

Act safely and you will always be asked back to shoot, its worth it.

  14. As a lot of you know do to a bout of shingles that attacked the nerves in my legs just before Christmas I have been forced to walk with a cane while my legs heal. This is not all of the time but when I get tired or pick up a cold as this causes the nerves to flare up .

Well I made a new cane this past few days and I just thought I would share it with you. The handle was supplied by a member of the forum...decroffy.....the shank is a piece of hard maple. I drew and then burned the pattern onto the maple, and then I carved around it all with my dremil.

The pictures are not great but should give you an idea. :good:

  16. Hi Mel. only just learned to cast a fly too. I found the trout fisherman magazine a wealth of info for getting started also a good book is THE PURSUIT OF STILLWATER TROUT by brian clarke. it is written in a light hearted jovial manner that cuts through the B/S yet gives all the information you will need. If you do not have anyone who can show you the basics of casting a lesson is a good idea then If you can beg / borrow a fly rod you can always practice casting where you have permission to shoot !! its how i got the hang of casting. Yes you will look a plonker casting in a grass field to a target but that is better than turning up at the waterside and having the line collapse in a heap in front / behind you (thats what happened to me on my first trip, hence the practice on a grass field). As usual wise words spoken by the other members do not worry about distance casting it will come with practice, i caught my first trout at the grand distance of 2 rod lengths out. Hope this helps.

If you get a rod to practice with on grass, tie a very small piece of white wool to the leader, it wont snag and you can see exactly where it is....also it wont take your eye out!

    D2D
