  1. Did you notice anything wrong with the case?, I've had remmys before with a strip of case missing, like when the bullet has been seated the thin brass has been dragged down and split, and of course the powder has disappeared, leaving only the primer to drive the bullet :D not good :/

No the case ejected normally, but into long grass so could not be found.

There was a half hearted report which, as I said, sounded similar to a subsonic round.

Now that I think back I asked the dealer a few months ago if anyone else had complained about misfires with Remmington yellow jacket ammo, he said he hadnt heard of it before.

Its certainly worth noting if you use this ammo.

  2.

he general opinion seems to be that this is a great video, personally I found several aspects disturbing.

So dont watch it! It is merely someone culling rabbits from range effectivley. So what if they buck and kick, are you telling me that in your hunting rabbits NEVER do that? Like the quote below? hows that any different from what this fellow is doing?

I did this next to a railway embankment about 50yds out in the field and just took pot shots all evening as they appeared,

I have absolutely no problem with culling of any kind carried out in a professional manner with due respect shown to the quarry, I did say that "PERSONALLY" I found several aspects disturbing, as I am sure one or two others did, if I wanted to enlarge on that comment I would have done so at the time.

Bought 2 items on that well know auction site. Neglected to see the vendor doesn't accept PayPal :D:/ I know they have to be payed for COD (Cash On delivery) but I can't find out if it's supposed to be in cash, cheque or what :D

Any help would be greatly appreciated, PM for text of emails :/

    Thanks in advance,

Today I have to report a very worrying occurance, while out this morning having some practise with the Anshutz semi .22 using Rem yellow jackets I had a partial discharge and the bullet lodged approx 5" up the barrel. Has this happened to anyone else?

Had I pulled the trigger again..... it sounded just like a sub and at first I thought I must have mixed one in with the HV. I packed up and put the rod through it at home, out came the bullet.

I am going to return my stock of Rems to my dealer and change ammo, Its not the first time I have had misfires, I cant cope with the thought it may have taken my face off. :D

that is real strange i have never had that problem and like i said earlier i have shot thousands out of my old ruger i supose it could happen with anybrand ,although i never liked remington firearms it wouldnt suprize me if their quality in munitions is going to **** , try federal ,winchester,or hornady when it comes to north american ammo thats what i like :/

Hi thanks for reply, I am suprised that more people have not commented on this, but perhaps its just as well as it shows it is not a widespread occurrence. :D

  7. Recently my Springer has come out in sores in his arm pits, after taking him to the vets and having him treated, we found out that the sores are the likely case of a wheat gluten allergy.

When I got back home I looked at his treats, all have wheat in them, I looked at his food, more wheat!

He was raised on raw tripe and we have put him back on to this, which is no hardship but I am worried about his teeth just feeding on soft foods. Can any body suggest a wheat gluten free mixer food that doesn't cost the earth please?

    :/

I had a springer pup years ago that caught the Parovirus that was going round, it killed a lot of dogs then, the vet said the only hope after the treatment, if he was to live to any age, was to feed him just plain boiled rice and boiled neck of lamb, he did well on it and made it to 12. It might work for you?

  8. I like to set a base where I think my quarry will be on that particular day due to the weather and use that to keep my gear in, have my food, rest etc and then stalk from there.

Ideally the base will be near a sitting tree (you never know your luck) and have a nice view of where I plan to stalk so while I'm having a bite to eat/rest I can keep an eye on the comings or goings.

Setting up a permenant hide that you can sit in comfortably is very civilised on a summers evening. I did this next to a railway embankment about 50yds out in the field and just took pot shots all evening as they appeared, until it became too dark to see clearly.

For this I used 4 angle iron stakes and some old chicken wire covered the lot in hession sacks split open, it stood there all summer and I shot there using subs and a mod once a week (even took a book) sitting on a plastic bottle crate, good sport and didnt cost the earth.

  9. If its your word against hers and the damage is small, no serious injury to any person, then I would bet my house on the fact they won't charge you with anything.

Interestingly there was a recent post by dazziboi which is kind of well timed, if you are asked to "accept" a caution, I would take legal advice, you don't have to and if they want to deal with it like that its likely they don't have anything substantial or they would charge you with criminal damage.

    Best of luck mate!

As I understand it a caution has to be declared much the same as a criminal record so dont accept one unless advised to by solicitor (free advice from CAB) and there is no way the CPS will take it further unless they have a 110% prospect of gaining a conviction, try not to worry too much and best of luck.

  10. Dont start serious training until about 18 months old, til then its still a child.

Unbelievable.....................you start training from the moment you get the puppy. Start with play training, obedience, hunting, chasing, socialisation etc. Then about six months it should start to get to get more formal in that you separate training from playtime/excerise.

Always remember it is a puppy.

You should feed the best quality puppy food you can afford for the first 5/6 months - this is the building block for you next 14/15 years for your cocker.

You have obviously taken my comment literally, by serious training I meant as a gundog not general obedience etc.

Many a promising pup has been spoiled by premature exposure to advanced training methods.

  12. I don't pay for shooting exactly, but the farmer gets a day of labour most weeks from me so I'm ok. If you count all the hours I do over the year, £3 an acre per year isn't going to get him far in comparison!

On friday I was a little out of my usual shooting area and spotted uncountable amounts of pigeon flying back and forth with an unmistakable flightline, so being somewhat excited at the prospect of fresh land I made enquiries there and then intending to return that afternoon,

I located the farmer and spoke to him via mobile and guess what he said...... bearing in mind his crop was being decimated, "Im really sorry but I cant let you because a group have paid for the pigeon shooting"

I asked him where they were now while the damage was being done and he said "they only come occasionally when its a nice day" Can you believe it, I asked him to keep my number and to call me next year.

Do farmers want a reliable pest control service or a few quick pounds?

  13. good shooting.

a tad on the large size see if this is better

"I say Wabbit" :D A seriously good days shooting and a nice job on your gun did you do it yourself?

I have replied on this post because I dont have the time to trawl 3 miles to the right looking for the reply button on your post ;)???

  14. in my opinion foxes are nothing but trouble 365 days a year.

    ronan :good:

    The Irish talk sense! ???:D

I'm not seeing the numbers I use to .England is over populated with housing estates and has'nt the fortunate open space like most of Ireland and Scotland so I can't see the point in shooting them for the sake of it on my patch if they are,nt a nuisance during their breeding season . :(

Perhaps us English should embark in large numbers to Ireland and Scotland and bring your fox population down a bit to our level ???

    Tin Hat Time ???

They seem to be drawn to easy pickings, a keeper aquaintance here in Kent told me he had shot 400 on his estate last year and was expecting to shoot more this year,

for what its worth I dont see the point of any leeway the cubs will be shot in due time anyway.

  15. Is this an over-the-barrel type moderator such as a T8 etc. Because if it is then you should not leave it on for long periods of time due to the fact that you will get rust starting to build up on the barrel where it fits inside the mod’.

If you mate has had his fitted for a very long time without removal, then I think he may find something nasty underneath when he removes it. :D

Would a very light coat of WD on the threads before assembly be enough to see off the dreaded?

  16. Probably not the right section for this but I didn’t know what to put it in!

I manage 6 miles of a beautiful Norfolk chalk steam that is run as a very, very exclusive dry fly brown trout fishery you cannot buy a day on this fishery it is by invitation only, I also run my own driven game shoot on 720 acres of land (woodland, arable and grazing) that the river runs through.

I could do with some to help occasionally, the work will be varied and include, some tree clearance, filling feed bins, trapping, cutting river side reeds and river weed and a manner of other tasks associated with game keeping and river keeping.

I am looking for one person preferably someone fairly local who would be interested in helping out occasionally on weekdays (not weekends), I am unable to offer any money but in exchange for your time I can offer some vermin shooting, fishing on the river for brown trout and as much fire wood as you want.

The fishing would be in accordance with the fishery rules (dry fly up stream) and no more than 3 fish taken in one day (average size of fish is 2lb, with some much larger) The shooting could be with air rifle (there is some good air rifle shooting rabbits, squirrels and rooks) or rim fire (.22 or .17 hmr) or shotgun but I am not offering any centre fire shooting, however if a good relationship developed over time and I gained trust in your use of firearms I would re-view the use of a centre fire to shoot Muntjac with at a later date.

The ground is about 10 miles outside Thetford, Norfolk near a village called Mundford.

If anyone is interested please PM me

I was thinking of moving anyway

  17. I spray nothing into the baffles and the oily sock is well sprayed with WD 40 .

    First shot on the nail

The rifling is cleaned after every outing using a boreguide ,rod ,jag ,patches and butches bore shine and no bronze brush .IMO the latter really can cause unpredictable grouping with the very first shots .

With a newly cleaned barrel I know exactly where first shot goes ;1" high slighty to the right by .25" with the following shots forming a tight group .

To put things into context up to now I have put around 1000 rds down this rifle and to date shot less than 20 foxes with it and I have covered just about every notion going concerning Full bore and to clean or not to clean .

1000 rounds for 20 foxes, where did the other 980 go?? only teasing :lol::lol:

  18. I havnet my .22lr yet but i will be buying a couple of sub HP finding the most accurate and everything will be shot with that.

Obviously a .22HV HP has more energy but messing around with tradjectorys and different types of bullet gets messy with one bullet you dont need to clean between changes rezero or whatever you just shoot it.

I would not take a shot at a Fox with subsonic and a mod unless the range was under 50yds,

my best rounds using Anshutz 525 semi auto are Remmington Yellow Jacket Hyper velocity for Fox and Winchester subsonic with mod for Rabbits. Its worth experimenting with different makes as they do perform differently in particular rifles.

When out with the .22 I carry one mag of each and take the mod off and change mags if an opportunity for a shot at Fox arises, I agree that the drop between the rounds is a serious consideration but if out Foxing I would use the .223.

    <_< D2D

Why do you take your moderator off??

Do you know I dont have an answer to that, My Father always did it and I only ever use it for subs, strange how I have never thought to do otherwise and have never shot HV with it on.
