  1. I am now 16 but neither of my parents hold certificates, if I posses a SGC can my parents "gift" me a shotgun for my own possession despite them not owning Shotguns themselves? Sticky
  2. Hi, I have been looking at getting this cabinet http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-GUN-CABINET-HIGH-SECURITY-3-SHOTGUN-RIFLE-GUN-CABINET-GUN-SAFE-/290642298355?pt=UK_SportingGoods_Hunting_ShootingSports_ET&hash=item43aba185f3#ht_3179wt_1107 for my shotguns when the SCG arrives, however I do not know how I am going to store my cartridges, I realize that it is not a requirement but I would like to make a good impression on the police, also I cannot afford for one of the higher quality Brattonsound gun safes with top locking boxes, do you have any suggestions on how I could safely store my cartridges and is there anway I can make my own rack/divider so that the safe will store more guns? Many thanks, Sticky
  3. +1 For the Greek Islands, went to Kos last summer, had a fantastic holiday at a small boutique hotel called the Diamond Deluxe Hotel, has its own beach and was away from all the major resorts and hubub, although it was still close enough to not feel isolated. It was about a 20min walk or cycle to Kos Town and there were regular buses into the town. Another option could be the Canary Islands, but be careful to choose a villa as some of the hotels are very much "Benidorm" style, Lanzarote is a great island with lots to do and explore. You could also try the Channel Islands, close to home but with weather you would expect to find in the south of France. My personal favorite is Jersey but you have to explore all of them to decide which is your favorite. Hope this helps, Sticky
  4. Yes thank you very much, two questions: do they have hire guns until I get my certificate and is their the opportunity to practice on your own without tuition?
  5. Afternoon all, I have been thinking about maintaining and refurbishing my grandfathers old air rifle from the early sixties and I was wandering if I could use Boiled Linseed Oil to both stain and maintain the furniture of this rifle and my other air rifles? Also are the Napier cleaning products for Shotguns and air rifles as good as they seem or are they a waste of money? Many thanks, Sticky
  6. I'm not a driver myself (yet) but what really annoys me is people zooming through our village as if its an unrestricted zone, the speed limit is 30 for a reason and who knows if there might be a young child on their bike or a horse rider or old dear popping to the letter box. It really urks me. And another thing is when those t***s go to overtake you on a bend when you are obeying the speed limit. I usually just utter "yeah, i'll see you bent round a lampost just up the road" it normally calms me down. So there's my two cents, Sticky
  7. Thanks a lot. Did you do this as well?
  8. Hi all, I have almost finished filling out my SGC form but have just thought of something, I printed the form off the website but i wondered if that would be ok instead of collecting one from the local police station. Will it still be fine? Sticky
  9. Hi, As a newbie myself to clay shooting, I invested in a course of three introductory lessons which covered all the basics of clay shooting. It is a big cost, but I feel that it is justified as it gives you the foundation on the sport, I personally believe that it would be a waist of money having a shotgun if you did not know how to shoot. Sticky
  10. Is this one on a farm by the main road? As I think I may know the location. Many Thanks, Sticky
  11. Hi Chaps, As I am recently getting into Clay Shooting, I was wondering if anyone knew or could recommend any informal clay ground/shoots near the Newbury area in West Berkshire? This is because it is quite expensive going to the Shooting School for practice rather than say a farm or similar. Many Thanks, Sticky
  12. I'm not sure if it's too much of a Trek for you but you could try Lains Shooting School near Andover, they are very good and reasonably priced as well Sticky
  13. Hello all, I just had my first lesson of three today at Lains Shooting School near Thruxton, I have to say that it was the most enjoyable thing I have done in a long time and I can't wait to have my next lesson. My instructor Shaun was great and I even managed to hit 23/25 clays on my first go! Sticky
  14. Thank you for all the fantastic advice, I'm pretty sure Hurricane XS contains 5g of Creapure per serving so hopefully it should do the job. Sticky
  15. Thank you all for the replies and special thanks to Spara Dritto for his huge "essay" on the subject. After reading all these posts and seeing that many people have said that a good diet is essential, I have still decided to go for a supplement as my current diet is right for what I do but I find myself needing something to take immediately after doing some intense exercise, I cannot just eat regular food as it will not benefit me as a result of the fast release carbs, and it isn't convenient to cook something either. The supplements I am looking at are MyProtein Recovery XS or Hurricane XS, had anyone used these to good effect and have you seen positive gains after exercise. Sticky
  16. I am trying to build lean muscle, my cardiovascular fitness is to the level I want it. But I am aware that because I am 6ft3" in height, I have not built any of my upper body muscles to acommodate for my height. This in turn makes me look very lanky. As a sport I play both rugby and I row so these both require a level of lean muscle that I do not have as of yet. Sticky
  17. Hey guys, Just wondering if any of you have used any of the whey protein sport supplement shakes? I have started to go to the gym and many of my mates use them and say they are good. If you guys have had any experience with a particular brand and seen good results please tell me. I am currently looking at MaxiMuscle or MyProtein supplements as they seem the best around Many Thanks, Sticky
  18. Thanks for clearing that up guys, I am planning on applying for my SGC then going and having a starter course of 6 lessons so that I understand what to do e.g gun fit, safety, mounting the gun etc. If the FEO asks the safe shot fallout distance am I right in thinking that it is 270(minimum) Yards but 300 yards is the normal? Also will he mind that I have only ever done clays once when I was about 12? Or will I have to have had more experience than that to be able to be granted my SGC, sorry for all the questions it's just that I want to get it right, hopefully my Counter signatory is good and the form is filled out correctly, ive also got the passport photos done it's just the cabinet I need now.
  19. Gents, I would like to know what your FEO asked you when you had your Shotgun Cert Interview. Can you please be specific as to the questions he asked you and exactly what you replied to it. Thanks, Sticky
  20. Just watched it, good to see our sport being shown for what it is and what it is about rather than those pesky little tree hugging idiots who have nothing better to do than try and take away our sport, even if it is for conservation of animals. Sticky
  21. I use RWS Superdomes in my Cometa 400S they work great for hunting and target's as well Sticky
  22. Yeah as said above they are an Airsoft gun used for military simulation and plinking type skirmishes, I used to be into that kind thing, but seriously if your going to try and shoot at anything, wear some goggles- those things ricochet loads, and if they hit something hard they will break up and it will be like shrapnel flying at you. Oh and they b***dy hurt if your shot by one also! :o Sticky
