  1. Ive used many Hawke scopes over the years, and found them good value for money. However, I swear by a Simmons Whitetail classic 3-10x50 on my HMR. Given the flat trajectory of the calibre, the less fussy the reticule is, the better. POA from 75 - 150 yards is less than 1/8" variance so it's basically point & shoot for these ranges. Either of the Hawke scopes will do the job with the 25mm giving more bolt clearance if fitted with medium mounts. If using high mounts due to clearance issues, then the 30mm tube gives more adjustment but at a price. 30mm tube scopes with SF also tend to be heavier, so if weight is a factor, the simpler scope with 25mmm tube will be lighter
  2. I regularly shoot both PCP's, springers & Gas ram air rifles. IMO they all have their uses. For plinking, target practice & shooting discipline, I value a springer every time, usually an AA TX200. For general shooting & independence, I favour my gas ram BSA Lighning XL break barrel with its Theoben GR. Less recoil, less twist, and simplicity of use. But for hunting use, I favour my AA S410 as it is multi-shot & being PCP it can be rested on fences, posts, trees & of course used with a bipod. None of which is really do-able with a sringer or a Gas Ram. Generally hunting, I use less that 2 dozen pellets as each time I pull the trigger I am intending on a humane kill and I can't carry that many rabbits! So the limitations of shot capacity are not an issue for me. I would never get rid of my springer as I have found from experience that regularly using a recoilless PCP makes you a lazy shooter and the basics such as rifle grip, breathing & trigger follow-through are easily forgotten. My belief is that if you can hit what you are aiming at with a springer, you can hit it with any combination that you are familiar with. I am fortunate enough to have built up a small collection of rifles over many years of shooting experience, so I have the luxury of choice. But if I had only one option, it would be a springer, but don't buy cheap, buy the best that you can afford, make sure that you are using the best pellet choice for your barrel, get familiar with your rifle/scope/reticule combo, make sure that your discipline & shooting technique are as good as you can be, and practice, practice, practice as often as you can
  3. Contact Wabbitbosher on the trade sales forum. He usually has some good guns at bargain prices. I second the Baikel recommendation, built to last & cheap too!
  4. Have to say Colin, many thanks from me & the missus for yet another cracker of an evening! Good food , good ale, good people & good fun. Stonkin' sausages as usual and as for the Handlebars Piccalilli, what a fantastic accompliment to a great meaty banger, awesome! (Please pass on our compliments Terry) Met loads of new faces, made some new friends and caught up with folk I'd not seen since the last do at Browns. As for the quiz, what a corker, with some devilish questions no doubt designed to catch out even the most ardent foodie. It was a delight to achieve second place as team Milton Box-lot, in the face of steep competition. Looking forward to the next event as I've enjoyed every one that I've been to so far and the missus is now a firm fan too! Cheers, Lee & Annie
  5. Count me in please Colin +1, looking forward to it! Cheers Lee
  6. Thanks for the nice comments guys. Much appreciated. I like it too, so I won't be parting with it after the effort that went into making it!
  7. Back in February, I was lucky enough to buy a skinny fieldcrafter knife blank from Matt Fieldcrafter. I intended to have a go at making a knife handle for the first time. Thought you might like to see how it finished up as I had some time over Easter weekend. My first ever effort and thanks to reading lots of threads & watching vids of 'how to', I'm pretty pleased with the result for a first go. Some simple walnut blanks, red fibre liner & brass corby bolts & about 8 hours of hand rasping, filing & sanding later...here this is what I ended up with Apologies for the lack of 'in progress' pics, but once I started, I pretty much didn't stop till it was finished. The lanyard hole was not planned. Originally there were 4 corby bolts. But as I shaped the handle, I took off too much brass on one side and ended up exposing the bolt threads on the end bolt which looked ****. After cursing for 10 minutes or so, thinking I had ruined it so close to finishing, I remembered a thread somewhere where a guy had used a shell casing to create a brass lanyard tube. So I drilled out the corby bolt, increased the hole to 6mm and inserted/epoxied a .17HMR casing in the hole, trimmed off, filed flush and carried on with the finishing. A fair bit of polishing and a few coats of walnut oil later, it didn't end up looking too bad really. Next up, my first go a sheath making!!!
  8. I'll take the skinny fieldcrafter if the price @ £15 includes postage please
  9. I shoot Lodge Farm regularly and I am a member there. Look out for my old green Defender with the BASC & Pigeon Watch sticker in the rear window & say hello. Do you shoot with a group? If not, you are welcome to join in with us. I also shoot Drayton Parslow.
  10. Hello from Leighton Buzzard! Welcome to PW

  13. I have a fair bit of Seeland gear & I am 40" chest 34" waist - medium fits fine.
  14. Are the Midas chokes extended?
  15. Dog guard wanted for Land Rover Defender 90 (1993) with bulkhead (so top part of dog guard only). Condition not important, but fittings required please.
  16. Does this bag have a hinged lid please?
  17. I use the white mail sacks from Royal Mail. There is no name on them at all, they are made from woven plastic material. Lightweight, white (reflects the heat) strong & washable. I use the same sacks as carcass bangs for rabbits & small deer as they can be left in the sacks whilst hanging. A visit to your local delivery office and a friendly attitude should get them for free too!
  18. Avon skin-so-soft used by us Bootnecks for years. Worked for me in Faslane anyhow
