  8. Hi all, Here's a report for yesterday. We have been watching a field of camalena that the farmer has informed us he has ruined (sprayed with a chemical on someone's recomendation but it has killed the crop) except for a strip which has obviously not being sprayed. Anyway this field has had a steady flow of pigeons hitting the field, we decided to leave them for a week or so to get confident. After walking around the surrounding fields, and a spot of crow bashing for another farmer, we arrived at 12.30 set up two hides about 50ft apart two magnets and 7 dead birds on cradles each. The shooting was immediate but a little slow for around half hour, then it went really consistent, regular shooting and some amazing shots and birds were taken by both of us. The only shame is this field is very awkward to shoot (roads, house's etc) so we had a very limited angle for shooting. This said we picked up 151 between us, with me smashing my PB of 32 by more than double 78, ! i am certain 100% that i had a 100+ day but could not pick all the dropped birds, and this is the same for my shooting partner, so all in all an excellent day was had by both of us, with the usual banter and fun that makes the day, so 200+ birds NOT bad at all. Oh and we had a visit from the local police as one of the houses had complained of pellets hitting there garage roof, he had one look at were we were sitting and our angles, apologised and said they must be mad and maybe it was someone else shooting over the other side of the road. He thanked us told us to carry on and enjoy ourselves and left. We also ran out of cartridges, so called the farmer who promptly brought us some, we explained the police issue, he told us we handled it well and the field is shootable, so as long as we keep up the good work we have nothing to worry about. thanks for reading turk101

  18. Hi all just thought i would share a couple of photo's with you all. Went out friday morning on some spring rape that has been getting badly hit by the woodies. Me and my mate have shot the field a couple of times now and have done pretty well on it. Started the day with a walk up the hedges one each side,(no escape for the woodies ) walked a least a couple of miles. picked up 18 woodies 3 crows 1 magpie and 3 rabbits on our travels. decide to set up on the rape around 1pm, we sat on two seperate parts of the field which have strong flight lines, there is another part of the field that also has a really strong flight line, but setting up there is a bit of a nightmare. anyway after about a hour or so my mate was bagging up and i was only getting the odd straggler, so i decided to take some sillo's and move to the other corner where the birds were settleing down undisturbed. As stated it is really difficult to set up there and i could here the woodies flying behind me a sitting in the tree 20 yards behind, so moved into a ditch and took around 5 testing birds as they were flighting in to the trees and decoys. after another hour or so i packed up again and joined my mate! sat about 15 yards from his hide in stinging nettles with the face mask on, the birds just could not see me or my mate until it was too late ... Anyway after some fairly constant shooting we picked up these 66 woodies and this is no exageration we must have lost a least 50 birds!!! the field behind was wheat which has picked up to a nice height, and this is bordered by a big old hedge row of about 10 foot x 10 foot plus the ones in the higher parts of the rape. Must admit it was a really exciteing day with lots of banter between us and a few birds shared (fired at exactly the same time ) and one happy farmer!! thanks for reading. turk101
  19. Well done Jonboy1, It's good when it comes together! Did you not lose any birds? The peas where i shoot are quite high now, it's inevitable that we lose birds in them now! there are hardly any well eaten parts either (which means we must have done a fairly good job ) even when we go for a stroll around the edges we end up losing loads, but a dead bird is a dead bird i suppose well done again turk101
