Not in a hide but whilst driving my boss around the shoot one sunny day inspecting the cover crops we came around the bend to discover a courting couple in a sunny glade now that was a bird in full splendor

All theses new fangled gadgets are beyond me , just cut sticks out of the hedge to prop up the heads a long bendy one pushed up through the body of the first shot pigeon and a short one to spread the wings make a bouncer or whatever you new kids call it and away you go sorted

All you can do is decide how many how many duck you want shot divide it by the number of guns and give each gun that number as a limit and hope they abide by it -

TIDES EDGE replied to shalfordninja33's topic in Sporting Pictures
Great post and it brought back many memories ,my eldest daughter started with me at that age great times, toasted sarnies on fires in the wood dens built from brush wood happy days . And guess what she is still out with me at 28years old now drives the truck, shoots better than me picks up with her lab and cooks better than I ever did -

Please correct me if I am wrong but I thought it was ilegal to use a rifle without it being yours on your FAC.( apart from an Estate rifle) I have just written a letter for some one for the issue of a FAC and was very careful to state that the experience gained by the person was from obsveration and question not from useing my rifles

Steel shot with fiber cup
TIDES EDGE replied to TIDES EDGE's topic in Bullets, Cartridges and Reloading
Gamebore have rung me back and evidently due to the thickness of the fibre cup they would only be able to get 20grm of 4 shot in it so it looks like the steel shot in a fibre cup is a dead duck -
It was not the cost it was the paper work for both the shoot and the beaters and as luck would have it all most all of them shoot
-
As I said we did discuss this with most of our beaters and most of them felt for the£20 we used to pay they did not want the hasel of having to fill in tax return forms unless they were self employed so 2 extra days shooting seemed a good idea. We shoot 12 days and as it is all out of cover crops its easy going
-
When /if do you stop feeding your pen?
TIDES EDGE replied to Mr pigeon's topic in Gamekeeping and Shoot Management
Just the same as we do -
We have decided not to pay our beaters & pickers up after discussions with them ,they will get a bacon roll at the start ,soup ,sausage and a pasty + a drink at lunch a brace of birds at the end of the day and another drink Oh ! and 3 days shooting beat one stand one of 100 birds. Do you think this is ok?
