  1. If you do not see the bead what is the point of having it I have a dominant left eye and I am right handed ,I cant shut my left eye and cant shoot left handed so I end up having to tilt my head over the stock to bring my left eye in line I end up with a thick lip and not much in the bag
  2. Dont worry about the shot size , if you open one you will find every shot size you can think of and some of it might even be round but boy do they kill well.
  3. If only they would get the fibre/paper cup wad going we could have the best of both , the patterns from the cup and the bio degradable properties of the fibre wads these could be used in all cartridges not just steel which should bring the price down.
  4. Sounds like a good idea I have rabbits living in my pen, not by choice though I shoot the little blighters when I can , you would have to block the pop holes to stop them going out through the grids otherwise its the same as a rabbit pen.
  5. For the first time in my life I got organized and ordered 400 Gamebore Mammoths 3" 4s last april for me and my mate, picked them up last week so we are now sorted for some time
  6. What part of kent are you in you sound like my type of guy a bit young but who cares
  7. Sorry but I disagree I think that you mus have a dog or have some one with you who has one no matter where you shoot, its hard enough to retreive with a good dog. Its fine to say make sure you drop them on safe ground but that dont happen for various reasons and that mud on the Medway sure is sticky and the vegetation is so thick in places you will never find them on your own in daylight let alone in the dark. So sorry get a dog or a buddy with one is my advice.
  8. An electric fence is a must IMOP no matter how good your perimeter fence is a fox cub or small vixen can squeeze in through a pop hole grid. Any of the units mentioned will do just make sure you have a spare battery charged up and swap them over regularly , also run spur lines out from the main electric fence every so often this stops foxes etc running round the pen and spooking the birds , I have a single strand running round the top of the perimeter fence this stop cats from jumping over the electric fence at the base and climbing up the wooden poles and getting in . I am very fortunate my pen is close enough to our shoot hut to run a mains energiser to it so no worries about flat batteries just power cuts.
  9. The problem I find with large feeders is no matter what system you use on them the grain does not flow due to the weight and pressure of the large amount of grain or pellets in them. Every other week is not that hard , some of mine, there will always be some that are used more than others are topped up twice a week. 60kg ones 3/4 filled are best IMO either buy the drums and put the legs on or buy them complete Solway Feeders or Patrick Pinkner sell them.
  10. 3000 pheasant poults due in on wednesday all is ready for them 800 duck last week and partridge due in end of july so busy busy ,just hope the weather holds good but the cover crops need rain .
  11. Yes this is a private marsh nothing to do with KWCA and dare I say it this is how Thornham could have ended up .
  12. I have never shot a Pink in 40 years of wildfowling or a White Front does that make me inexperienced. As DNT posted if you give him the details of the dates that these things happened KWCA can tell from the permits who was there and take action. DNT you have tried your hardest to explain that Thornham was all ready lost before KWCA bid on it and that you can not comment on other issues so I would give up if I was you, but well done and thank you for your posts. Oh and Shergar is buried next to the submarine on Tudor Farm marsh sadly died last year
  13. Penelope that is what I was thinking when I said about a Norfolk W A only I wasnt brave enoughth to say so , yes it would take some administrating but the clout it would have and the funds would be awsome, I think each county would have to have its own branch but all would be governed by the same rules and permits should be available for every one for any marsh.
  14. I did not realise untill this discussion started that there were so many small clubs in Norfolk would it not be better to have one large club so that you had a bigger voice and bank balance to fight off any threats from where ever they come from.
  15. I dont use feeders just tip it on the bank at the waters edge if you use pellets then in the shallows when changeing to grain then start to trail feed away from pond later on and then feed as far as poss from the pond ,I find this makes them fly better
  16. Blimey Paul that is where the fu** are we tribe country, I think you will find that it is to tall and thick at the moment for birds to get in ,foxes yes . We have also left some on our shoot no where near as tall and thick it has also gone to seed and dying back so the stubble turnip idea mentioned seems a good option
  17. Had a phone call yesterday to say that the ducks were coming today 9 am , good job there is not much work involved ponds have water and grass was cut so all was ok , they arrived and went out well in fact they took to it like ducks to water They will be on grower pellet untill saturday so got to get some wheat bagged up so here we go again !.
  18. poults or exlay ? my pheasant and duck poults arrive end of the month rushing around like a blue **** fly at the moment getting ready ,just got back from putting up the partridge pens on the cover crops as these need doing before the maize comes up ,it has allready started so just in time its all go at the moment, mind you it never seems to stop always some thing to do.
  19. Kwca issue 3 permits a day for Thorham do the other local clubs work on permits or can all 200 etc members shoot when they want?
  20. Local people with grandad rights can still shoot Thornham and as posted before KWCA were not the highest bidders and if you join them you can get permits to shoot on any of their land .
  21. He was and he also did a programme with a young lad called country boy
