  1. I had a low clay score, spent 1 day with a coach (in a group of 5) after that I doubled my score. Then I just stopped thinking about the shot and my score got quite good. But it was the coaching that got the ball rolling, well worth the £100.
  2. Most people ask about lead. and it is almost imposible to give advice as people see lead differently. I dont have the figures to hand but the physics say that for a 35 yard bird at average speeds you will need 6ft lead. To me it looks like 3ft but as I say its a personal thing. If your gun fit is only a bit off practice mounting and shooting into a mirror at your right eye (the one above the gun) get to know what it feels like to get everything in line. It may help.... Keep to the open chokes for now, and avoid the long shots. I always have trouble with sitters, I normaly get around 40-45 out of 50 at sporting! so just 'cos you have trouble with one shot wont mean you have trouble with them all.
  3. Rob G: yes I always use a red filter the bunnies on our farm always run if I dont. I was wondering about putting a red filter on my head lamp, as it picks out the eyes of cows when I am walking at night.should work for foxes.
  4. Speaking of hitting sitting birds.... I just cant do it; first shot gets them in the air; second knocks them down. I must be giving them lead
  5. I had a go at lamping foxes the other night after bunnie bashing. I had them comming to about 75 yards by sucking on my teeth. But every time I put the lamp on they would stop and retreat. How do you guys "see" if the fox is getting near? (could't shoot as I only had the rimfire with me)
  6. And the fillings
  7. I nearly always have a 56g BB load as the last shot in my sa if walking hedges. Its good to 60 yards (never needes more than that distance) its a very quick clean kill after I clear the first two rounds.

    Realesed foxes

A blue van has been seen around the M4 M5 M40 area. One night was seen droping off about 24 foxes. However the foxes seemed not to be too bothered about the guy with a centerfire that polished off 18 of them after the van drove off. It would seem that the foxes had been semi tamed or at least used to humans. I have heard this type of story several times and judging fom a suden rise in foxes on our farm about 3 months ago I guess we got a van load
  12. I never shoot beond 40 yards, too much chance of a runner. However I will shoot at foxes out to 60yards as long as I have 56g of BB or AAA in the gun.
  13. true or improved cylinder but 6.5 shot.
  14. went out all day saturday...Nothing.. only a stupid jay that slowly flapped strait at me! On thursday we had flocks of 50 or so. And I missed 2 foxes.
  15. Every 2 weeks (approx.) the tide is at its highest. This is a spring tide. On a salt marsh this is about the level of the marsh top. So stand in the right place and you are ok till the 20th. Law is the same in Scotland.
  16. I dont think you can buy a bad cartridge these days. I have used most brands and never had any thing to complain about. I like Eley, dont know why, sentiment from my youthful days I supose. Oh yes they also load 6.5 size shot. (I think express do but they call it 6 !! now that is confusing)
  17. I use flexicoys the plastic is grey so I would only bother with the neck bands. I thought of taking a bottle of "Tipex" corection fluid with me as you only need a thin stripe.
  18. Try Soviet bazar, They goot a good review in what gun last year.
  19. I agree with hammergun. The rimfire will also make less noise than a FAC precharged. Is simple to change the power you just change the round.A rimfire will cost as little as £80.
  20. Mother-in-law had one done about 10-11 years ago. She was walking after 3 weeks and has never looked back.
  21. yep, the Trad. Game work well for me, both 6 28g and 7 24g. I was using both on crow at the weekend. Shot a stonking pigeon, low and very, very fast: it just poped over a hedge. However it cost me 50p as I had left a 32g 5 Tungstan matrix in the gun.
  22. If you have the cash go for a gen II, gen 1 are Cr*p, unless you have a very bright IR lamp. The little IR iluminators are useless beond about 15 ft. I have given up on my Gen.1 its a lot easyer to use a red rifle lamp.
  23. Just got this off uk.rec.shooting.game: "Angling and shooting next, says Labour MP Until now, Labour opponents of the proposed hunting ban have been restrained in their criticism of the Government. No longer, though. Kate Hoey, the most prominent pro-hunting Labour MP, has written a startling article for the next issue of the Field magazine, in which she alleges that the Government is deliberately misleading the public over the future of shooting and fishing. Hoey says that Michael's so-called utility test, which determines whether various forms of hunting are necessary for pest control, is a precursor to future bans on shooting and fishing: "If the utility test were to become law, then game shooting and coarse fishing would be drawn in by the same the criteria. The zealots who want to ban hunting will waste no time, if they are successful, in turning their campaign to ban other sports." The Government, while resolutely failing to address Hoey's specific claims, none the less makes a manful attempt to pour cold water on them. "There is nothing in the hunting Bill that has any implications for shooting and fishing," insists a spokesman for Mr Michael. "It's mischievous to suggest otherwise.""
