Thts funny I had to get a garage freezer as well
  2. I am suprised by my 20g sxs, it is as good with 28g loads as my 12 is with 32g. and for snap shooting it is even better(faster handling). Range is determined by choke and shot size not bore so no difference.
  3. Hawk best pigeon 32g. Just started using 1/2 choke.( not noticed any difference yet, but the pigeon seem a bit thin on the ground). Supergame: give that gun a clean! Blue Diamond realy smacks the bolt backwards on my Benelli. The only load that has ever refused to cycle was some extra light very subsonic experimental loads I made (but they still killed pigeon). I allso use clear pigeon 6 30g, express pigeon special 6 30g, and various home loads about 1200ft/s 32g 6 shot.(7 when I have some)
  4. Cant say I have taisted ether, so cant comment
  5. I may be selling (after all my pals have looked at it) jack's game pigeon shooting with Archie Coats. It will cost as I paid an arm and a leg for it (ah so thats why I keep dropping the gun and falling over).
  6. Hi Rjimmer; I'm not sure of the bulet weight, about 30-35gr by the look of them. They did not crack so must have been subsonic. I tried to hit a 12g hull at 25 yards with it, but nether he nor I could, this is not a problem with my RF. (he said it may have been due to low pressure in the bottle) The whole gun made a horrible ringing twang as he shot. My rf just makes a dull click folowed by a slight hiss of the bullet followed by the satisfying thwunk of another bunny making its way to my freezer :(
  7. Wow what a lot of posts!! :( REmember you also need a game licence if you are a beater or a picker up. If you have to kill a runner then you would be on the wrong side of the law.
  8. One of the chaps on our shoot has a 70ft/lb air rifle. It strips the edges of normal pelets, so he has to use lead bullets they look just like the top of 22RF rounds. This is a precharged rifle and is still a lot noisier than my RF both have moderators.
  9. It is quite legal to shoot water birds with a rifle. As I mention earlyer in this thread I checked with the basc legal department as I was asked to shoot canadas on a pond. They checked my fac and as it did not say "ground game only" (I think that was the bit) it was ok.
  10. I have several "hides" that started off as dens for the local kids. This was about 30 years ago. The plants are kept at bay by whoever uses the hides consatantly snipping. One is just right for a sitty tree. so I walk up put down stall and wait for the birds to have a sit down. Its a great place to have a rest drink coffee and shoot the odd bird.
  11. Ive found that when you add in postage its cheaper to buy localy.
  12. With no 7 shot and keeping the range down to 35 yards he could well, Archie Coats did !
  13. The S&N hide poles are ver good and only £38 for 4 in a bag. I like the newer army surplus netting (the old stuf waterlogs and can stink if it starts to mold) made of synthetics £20 from my local chap in Oxford. Rotors are good but they cant make pigeons if there are none about, get one after you have all the basics. Flexicoys work well and are indistructable, but they can shine in sunlight, flock ones are nearly as good as dead pigeons, until the flocking comes off.
  14. I prefer 28" as a general rule. I find that these are a bit long on an s/a giving you a gun lenght simmilar to a 32". But then a S/A is that much easier to use in the hide. I find the 27.5" of my 20g side by sides realy good for snap shooting, as you hardly have a chance to get the swing going in a woodland ride.
  15. Had some small luck putting crows on the rotor, I made a bail hide at the side of a stack they aways flew over the stack so we both saw each other at the last moment. Exciting
  16. Its a CZ .223 new. I like the brno/cz stuff, its low cost well made and groups well with its preferd ammo 1 inch easily at 100yards (up to 55 gr with 1 in 12 rifeling). But I realy must get a moderator. I have one for it on my ticket, but 5weeks away for cutting and reproofing is too much when you have a new toy. And the cost...why are these cans around 150 Im sure they cost about the same to make as the better 22rf, and they are only around 50.
  17. called tonight for 20 minuts fox comes from the oposite direction I was expecting 100 yards out, looked through scope to find the lamps not in line. could see the eyse but not the cross hairs. The bullet explodes just behind the fox (good backstop) fox runs off. found fox 3 fields away tried to call it in but I think it now know that call is bad news... It ran off. Its a shame I would have liked to have cleard one up first time out with the new gun.
  18. I prefer fibre, plastic gives you the the same results as about an extra 1/8 choke. However when reloading I use plastic as i have about 1000 of the things. Over decoys I pick up the plastic wads when easy, such as on fresh drilling.
  19. dont know about those gloves, but Hawkshead do some shooting ones with a mit cover for when its realy cold which i just put over 3 fingers leving my trigger finger free. they also have leather palms.
  20. I got a realy great one from a boat shop. I think they are some sort of bulk food barrel. They are used to keep things dry in open boats.
  21. Could they have anything to do with the magnet guys? same area, same prices range...... Comon Will B own-up !
  22. I find the withe light hard on my eyes, but good for finding dead bunnies. Had a scare at the week end saw a set of eyes 1 foot off the ground, about to take shot when I noticed that this was a deers head! It was standing in a ditch! :(
