  3. Did you get a pic of the ling? My first ever really nice fish was a ling - makes an amazing fish and chips!
  4. Hi all, couple of questions. I recently bought a Beretta 301 semi-auto and whilst cleaning noticed a significant amount of (for want of a better word) gunk at the rear of the bolt, specifically around where the bolt connecting rod fixes into the action. After removing the trigger mechanism I tried to get into this area with a toothbrush which wasn't small enough. Was wondering what other people used? I also have Napier gun cleaner/lube, is this sufficient for all metal and moving parts of the gun? Thanks

Is it fine to be used in and on barrels as well as in the working parts? I have recently bought a semi-auto and would anyone recommend any particular cleaning products/advice for it? Cheers

  13. Cheers Leadwasp, yeah I'm happy with how it's turned out really. Seems solid. Night Searcher - thanks for the link to the site, I did get a screw, just hard to see in the pic I think. Got a nice oil which I used on a sanded SMK stock (pics in other thread) which I might try.
  14. Glued it yesterday, took clamps off today, put nearly 100 shots through it today and it held up. Thanks to everyone for your help, pictures to follow.

    Cleaning up an SMK

I don't mind the trigger, The tacky brown finish was what I disliked! Good video, bet your nephew enjoyed his present! What do you have in mind for it SC00P?
  18. Cheers for advice everyone, for some reason couldn't see all the posts. Will put up a pic when I've done the repair.
  19. Nearly 10 years ago I bought myself a new SMK for the princely sum of £60. Left home a few years ago and the gun was forgotten about and it's condition deteriorated. Was home recently and decided to give the gun a thorough clean, as well as stripping the horrible factory finish and coating it myself. Happy with the results, enjoying reliving my youth as well. You don't have to have an expensive gun to have fun! After!
  20. Barrel seems straight fortunately! Is it essential to use a dowel at the end of the split? I don't know if you can see in the photos but where the dowel would need to go looks a bit awkward in terms of drilling and inserting dowel. Also, that far down the split there is less than a hairline gap so it will be difficult to prise apart without further damaging the stock... Where your foremost hand rests on the stock there are a couple of screws holding the stock to the working parts, one of the screws is missing (I imagine this happened when the split occurred), any ideas where I could get a replacement? Finally, all the rifles I have owned previously could be cocked (I.e there was tension on the spring when the barrel was broken) when the stock had been removed from the gun. This isn't the case with the BSA, with it seemingly bracing against the stock to allow the barrel to break. Does this sound right? Thanks for all of your help! Such a nice gun, I don't want to muck up the job!
  21. Right guys, home and had a proper look at the gun. The split runs far and ends in the trigger mount area of the stock. I did intend to use the dowel method mentioned previously to stop the split running but from the look of the area I'd need to drill I'm unsure whether I can/want to go down this route due to the awkwardness and possible fragility of where the split extends to so far. Should I leave out the dowel and simply attempt a glue? What are the chances the split will run further if I do do this? Pictures attached. Thanks for your help! Close up Zoomed out.
