  1. Yes I got my butchering on today, and I'm now keen to find a local with a cold store which I could use. The carcas could have done with a day or so more, probably with the skin off. The meat was quite loose, and pale, rather than the firm dark meat I was hoping for. Unfortunately the 100grain softtip hade ruined the front end, but still got a lot out of it.
  2. Thanks guys, Yes i was impressed with the head on him. Quite a set of points but not as bulky as many ive seen. I'm not a head mounting kind of man, but it was worth a photo. Got to love the CZ, especially when it came with a S&B 6x42, t8 mod & 75rds. - cant fault it.
  3. I took a wander with my new CZ .243 and spaniel in the sunshine. Having reached the high point I nipped through a hedge to spy the field below aand found this chap mooching along the adjacent hedgeline about 130yds away. Unfortunately the shot wasn't on (no suitable backstop), so we watched him move slowly down the hedgeline and then we skirted around to head him off at the bottom. Picked him up again unexpectedly half way round when we were in a gateway I somehow managed to get the eager spaniel to sit still and quiet while I crawled around the corner and waited for the ideal time to take a sound 60yd shot with him just quatering toward me. He dropped where he stood which was a pleasing reward to a nice first stalk.
  4. Hi all, When dealing with 3 bunnies last night I found small (maybe 2mm) white spots/flecks on two of the livers. Now after a bit of research I'm thinking it could either be liver fluke or liver coccidiosis. - any other thoughts, and importantly, is the rest of the carcas eatable? Tried to get a pic, but the flash seems to have made a few reflected white spots of its own.
  5. I use one of these : - I the tweo sections tweist so they lay parallel. Search for "Universal Bicycle Bike LED Torch Front" on any bid based website.
  6. Shame your not around until next week. I just can't get down in time!
  7. Sounds spot on, again let me know where these might be found if possible. Thanks!
  8. Cartridges: 4x boxes of Hull HV Pigeon 29g #6 Fiber - £15 2x boxes of Eley VIP Elite 34g #5 Fiber - £12 Or the lot for £25. - collection (with SGC) Banbury or Warwick area, I've only got a 20 bore now. Would also swap for a fair amount of 20 bore cartridges.
  9. Reduced to £600, I've managed to delete the listing on gunwatch rather than edit! but it is still available.
  10. Just spoken to my farmer, he has just put beans in which I anticipate will be attracting some feathered attention.
  11. This is my gun, - would take reasonable offers from fellow PW members. Also throw in what cartridges i have left (a true assortment)
  12. Mine is in loft, but I put it in a position that you only need to stand on a ladder and poke your head up and you can access the guns.far less FAFF, but did rely on having a fixing point in the right location.
  13. Fair point on tbe'dump them' comment, its just a supply it I wanted from a local shooting school that has their own branded cartridges.it does seem the most data to to 70mm The tool is for 70mm really, but just tried it on 65mm and it worked just fine! A credit to yhoyr tooling.
  14. So I've found a good source of 65mm empty cartridges, any recommended data ? Max lead load?
  15. Update to :http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/topic/295017-fac-finally-posted/ So it has taken about 5 months, but I was granted what I asked for; .22lr +mod for vermin control .243 +mod for deer and any other lawful species. For those interested, this was with West Mercia and was my first application for FAC. I've done lots of target shooting with cadets previously, and have spent a while gaining experience with lots of different people with different calibers. I signed onto an 'introduction to stalking' course with a local guide. Also, I had a good number of known (to my FAO) people offering to take me out on the deer to start with. I could prove i knew carcas handling, as my line of work involves lots of bushcraft survival type bits including deer. Finally, I had a good size chunk of land that had already been cleared up to .306. Now the hunt for rifles begins, although the .243 may have to wait until I've paid for my upcoming wedding.
  16. Ok, so i got the hand tools from Underdog in the post today. (i'm still on the hunt for a 20g Lee Load-all) and i thought i would have a go and see if i could produce something. I haven't bought any 'parts' yet, so i had to dissect a cartridge to get the bits needed. I would like to point out that i didn't shove a punch pin down and onto a live primer, i removed the one in the empty cartridge and simply put that one back in again, which was easy using the longer bar with the drilled hollow in the end. Then, after putting the powder and then plastic wad in, it was tamped down just a little, again using the longer bar. then, poured in the shot and tapped down. Next, inserted into the tube and pushed the tube right down to the rim of the cartridge metal cap, the old crimp began to close back over, at which point the mushroom top piece was inserted and knocked down until it was firm, then use it it know the whole cartridge back out of the tube. - Hey presto, not a bag looking crimp and a re-sized cartridge which slips easily into the chamber. Here I was simply putting components from a eley vip 28gram #6 into used eley vip 28g #6 shell. Spot on, many thanks to Underdog! Now to look at buying the real bits needed.
  17. Excellent, I'll look for some. I'm much more of a digital kind of guy anyway. Thanks to all for some very positive comments and tips!
  18. Shell decoy on top of the battery is a cracking idea!
  19. Wow, had a load of super useful advice and info. I think for my first go I'll stick the FES website data and supplies. I'll likely be using either Eley CT or VIP game casese, does the length of the metal base play a big part, as the FES data only states 70mm case.
