  1. Yeah, its probably more the dog that has helped, she has been fab, especially since its her first season working. But she has been a bit keen and strong headed late in the season as she think she knows the job now and can do it without me. - that's Spaniels.
  2. Just gained further permissions today for pigeon across two farms as a result of beating on a shoot all season. I've also bagged an afternoons rough shooting, simply by asking the owner if I could take the dog and gun for a lap since it is the end of the season. They are still pulling 300 bird days out of the land so it should be a nice afternoon out! Just pays to get out beating, good luck one and all.
  3. I'm the same too. Generally right eye, but when it gets bored the left takes over.I have always shot right handed. I find if I either squint my left a little or sometimes simply closing the left for a quick second with the gun mounted then going back to both eyes open helps me.
  4. Fab offer! Shame I'm committed to working the dog on my day off this week! Although if they are still hitting next Sunday I'd be tempted to do the drive- keep us updated.
  5. I'm a kayak coach in my spare time. I couldn't reccoment a sit-on enough. They can be well kitted out for fishing and don't need too much 'training'to be safe either.
  6. Fab Idea - They can then still be stored squashed flat in a rucksack to carry in and out.
  7. Flight line finding it is then, fortunately there is a nice hill in the middle which gives a good lookout. And finding next door farmer once they start hitting the rape is a fab idea. Not too worried there seems to be promise come harvest time and later in the year. There are lots of crows and rooks about so I may try that too.
  8. Welcome to a great source of info and help
  9. On my permission there is no rape about, just beans, wheat and some (i think) clover. There is rape surrounding the land, I was thinking that perhaps the beans when they begin to sprout would be worth a look? Or just find a flight line and set up under that?
  10. Yes, I certainly appreciate the fact that hopefully the woody will already be shot before he notices the missing beaks. I like the expanding foam idea, keeps them lught which herkps keep a !little movement in the wind. Thanks so far!
  11. I have just acquired a duffle bag containing 30ish mixed decoys, a bouncer with wing holder and a large camo net for just £20. - can't argue, id have paid that for the net and bouncer. Anyway, I've got several shell decoys with the beaks broken off, will this be a huge disadvantage? Ive also got several rubber decyos with the base cut out, these are a bit deformed, but may straighten out with careful use of hot water? There are some full bodies with slots for wings, can you buy the wings and tails separately? Finally, they could all do with a lick of paint, i' m guessing its best to use matt coat, with the emphasis on the white detail? Thanks for any advice
  12. As a side note, if anyone knows why some of the forums are missing from my list that would be fab, eg the 'other items' in the for sale section is missing from my list, whereas iv previously seen it
  13. Iv been posting a little already, but thought I'd actually say hello on here too.
  14. I'm pretty new to shooting as a whole and not done much pigeon or corvid at all. But I've just gained 650 acres to shoot over which is fab. I knew the land owner through work (both teachers), they put me in contact with their farm manager who was generally keen, as was their game keeper. I have done a lot of swatting up and could hold a conversation about decoying etc, but was honest about my experience level. Also turned up with copies of SGC and insurance, but the OS map helped, so we could talk boundaries and what crops are where. No rape but some beans, wheat and clover fields, not much pigeon around, but lots of crows and rooks to get started with. Happy man.
  15. Were these taken at the red sqizzer hideaway in Cumbria, the one with a giant greenhouse in the middle. - center parcs, Whinfell Forrest? There are lots there still as the greys can't get to it without crossing lots of open land. I spent my university days working there to pay for beer.
  16. Has anyone been with Warwickshire pigeon or pigeons r us?
  17. Is the crate quite large for the dog still? We had to block part of our crate off, so if the dog did poo, she would defiantly have to be close to it. Seemed to discourage it. Although very regular visits straight from crate to outside are needed.
  18. Just picked up on this post, has anyone had a go at making floater poles with tent poles?
  19. Again, the farmers on the land we have game shoots over are not too bothered about walking over their rape. Could try to send the dog out to save a bit of damage perhaps, if you have a dog that will retrieve that is.
  20. I'm fairly new to all this and based right near Leamington and Warwick. I'v been doing lots of beating with my dog locally, which will hopefully lead to some permissions once the game season ends. Perhaps a bit of clays at Edgehill or similar if anyone is interested.
  21. Thank you all. I'll try to take the camera out a bit more from now on. If anyone else is shooting vaguely near Warwick / Stratford Upon Avon give me a shout if you in need of beating / photographs
  22. Lots of beaters around allowed the camera to come out. Just a select few pics from this Saturday.
