Depends on what the finish is and what the wood is. Harsh removers may damage the wood and raise the grain. If they are french polished with Shellac, try a little Meths, this will disolve the laquer and allow it to be removed safely. Test a small area first Hope this helps

Try the Michelle Thomas course. Really good, no books, writing stuff down etc He starts with simple words and then builds up sentences. Really good basic introduction over what was 6 Cassettes, but now I guess you can download the course. Hope it helps.

Loads of great advice, only thing to add, make a written note of all the tips, tick them off so you need to pinpoint where the problem is first and foremost. Start with the stupid obvious stuff first: Can you hit static objects as different distances, then work out through your list of possible problems.

Get down to your local Gun Club, spend some time participating and get to know the other members. Knocking on doors etc is a waste of time. Ask at your local gunsmith if you don't know any clubs, they will point you in the right direction.
