  1. Having had plenty of experience with both I'd have to say the 6.5 is the way forward.
  2. .410 is my favourite gun and the one I use 90% of the time! - norica 3 shot and a hushpower mossy. Only just started using eley carts and so far very pleased.
  3. Thanks very Much, think i will take the plunge and get one as chief ratter! Cheers.
  4. Thanks very much for the replies guys.
  5. I saw that program too. He said he had is gun zeroed around 15yards, I'm sure at that range the 22lr would be fine for a fox! But agree it can't be one rule for one and a different rule for another. My own opinion is that although the 22 rimfire will do for a fox, I don't think they are up to the job. But that's just my opinion.
  6. I'm looking at an early model bas lightning with view to buy it, it's the first model, 10inch ish barrel big silencer on it, maxi grip scope rail, etc, are they any good as a mid range hunting rifle, I've heard rumours years ago they were only around 10ft lbs. People's views and opinions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.
  7. I have a pedretti single barrel hushpower 20g and my friend has a mossberg pump 410, using subsonics in the 20 we don't find much difference between the 2. But never had the chance to try a fully mod single 410 but would say it's bound to be quieter. In the right hands the 410 is easily good for 20-25 yards on crows, rabbits etc.... in better hands a bit further!
  8. I think we needed more than luck today! Gave up after 4hours and not a single rabbit. Some good looking holes, keen ferrets, nothing doing though. Can only presume they are all above ground still in undergrowth where we have been today. Better luck next weekend!
  9. Me and my lad are off out ferreting tomorrow , to an area my dad says is over run with rabbits, so knowing my dad we will probably get one!
  10. Have you taken out the pilot jet in the carb? It's a small jet to the side of the main jet, probably about 1cm or so down a recess, these are usually a common cause of trouble.
  11. It goes down a bit past full, suppose you would say extra full, Good for foxing. Again will go a bit past cylinder as well, so pretty good wide range. Off tomoz to see a mossberg bolt 410 with the exact same choke system!
  12. I had a mossberg bolt action 12b a few years back, screw choke was fine but gun kicked like a mule so I sold it, also got a mossberg pump action that is quite old and has the screw choke which is also in perfect working order and very handy for quick changes.
  13. Still well up to the job of dispatching them either way. 6inches or 6 yards, not expecting miracles from one.
  14. Looking at those pics it looks well up to the job.
  15. The nikko scopes that come with mounts are the mountmaster range, these are the budget range and seem fine too, my lad has one. I don't rate the mounts that they come with tho!
  16. I've always been a big fan of Nikko sterling's, would recommend the game king series and the gold crown models, I've a 3-9 x 40 gold crown on my .22lr and a game king 2.5-10 x 44 illuminated reticule on my .22 hornet and a 2.5-10 x 50 gold crown on my .308 , never an issue with them and can't fault them for the price.
  17. They look cracking little guns, some enjoyment to be had out of them ones!
  18. Thanks chaps some interesting info, off to see one toward the end of the week, more than likely will bring it home!
  19. Some people say they are prone to leaks but a seal service kit is only around £15 and really easy to do. Both guns are super efficient and will put pellets through the same hole at 25-35 yards time and time again.
  20. I've got an fn12 in .20 and get around 40 good shots per charge, would get more but a bit inconsistent there after. Very accurate guns. Got an fn 19 as well and can't fault either of them in over 10 years!
  21. As above mate, clutch slipping, it's about had it!
  22. When you say has worms, do you mean passing worms dead in its poo? If so as above said, it will be what the wormer has taken care of, so hopefully a case of had worms that are now gone. Now sorted should hopefully not affect the new owners at all, we breed golden retrievers and labs and have seen this a few times with the odd litter. We have recently started using a new liquid wormer by drontal which is fantastic stuff. I'd say the pup would be fine to go.
  23. I have a .22 hornet, it's one of my favourite rifles I've had, use it all the time, iv never shot anything other than hornady 35grain ballistic tips out of it and get very good results. Just my opinion of course, I'm sure home loading works excellent too.
