  1. It's in response to the Sandy Hook shooting in Connecticut back in December. The shooting reignited the gun control debate big time and there was a push to ban military looking semi-auto rifles and any magazine that held more than 10 rounds. Those measures were defeated, and the panic buying has slowed quite a bit, but the debate is still raging with background checks being the center focus. Ammo is still in extremely short supply and probably will be until at least early next year.
  2. http://www.policymic.com/articles/39733/adam-kokesh-planning-gun-march-in-washington-for-july-4 Adam Kokesh is a libertarian radio host/political activist. While I agree with him on some things, he's a little out there on this one. He only called for 1,000 volunteers, but 3,000 people have already signed up to participate. That being said, it's tempting to join him.
  3. They weren't just fighting the Normans, but also the Bretons, Flemish and French (Normandy wasn't a part of France until 1204). The English probably would've won at Hastings, too, if weren't for the other Harald and his not-so-merry band of Norwegians.
  4. I wish. Unfortunately, even over here a full auto shotgun is a big no-no.
  5. I don't think you quite get it. The law only bans the AR-15 name and any semi-automatic rifle with two or more "evil" features. All the manufacturers did was change the name (hence XM-15) and eliminate the banned features. That way, it's not an assault weapon under the law, and you can still have an AR-15. You just can't have one with a flash hider or collapsible stock. This is a Connecticut legal Bushmaster XM-15. The only difference between this and an illegal AR-15 is that it has no flash hider. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/0e/Bushmaster.jpg
  6. No, they banned just about every semi-automatic long arm in 96, including .22's and shotguns, not just scary looking military style rifles. They also banned pump shotguns. In other words, about 90% of all guns in Britain are banned in Australia.
  7. Business as usual. They'll bring the peninsula to the brink of war, back down at the last minute, and then demand aid.
  8. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-250_162-57576707/is-america-irreversibly-pro-gun/ I hope so.
  9. Come to America. You can pick from the wide selection of AR-15's at the local Wal-Mart.

  11. They're selling a gun, legally, and through the appropriate channels to raise money for the kids. What's wrong with that?
  12. Culture is what it comes down to. We can't be compared to other industrialized nations when it comes to gun ownership because there are no others like us. We're the only Western nation where gun ownership is a right. Americans equate widespread gun ownership with personal freedom, liberty, and independence from the government. We fought for our independence largely with private weapons at the start of the war. The first battle of the American Revolutionary War, the Battle of Lexington and Concord, started because British troops were trying to confiscate peoples' guns. We feel that if they can take away guns, they can take away our other rights, too.
  13. In other news, Colorado is about to ban the sale of all new magazines holding more than 15 rounds in the state. The Democrats ramming it through say it's to reduce the carnage in the event of another mass shooting. Only problem is the worst mass shooting in US history (Virginia Tech- 32 dead, 17 wounded) was carried out with magazines holding 15 rounds or fewer. That should tell you how well that's going to work.
  14. That's right down the street from me. Great pizza.
  15. I'd like to see London, of course. But i'd also like to get off the beaten path a little bit. I hear Cornwall, Devon, and Somerset are nice. I'm a bit of a history buff and would like to see Hastings and the Bayoux Tapestry. What are the best pubs and clubs around London? Most importantly, what are English women like?
  16. I might do that just to see what kind of reaction I get.
  17. As an American who plans on visiting the UK at some point in the next few years, what are some dos and don'ts when it comes to restaraunts, bars, and being in public in general? How do you not look like a tourist?
  18. These articles are always misleading. Swiss gun laws are more strict than many here in the US realize, but they're not as strict as this article is trying to imply either. I remember a while back on one of the (American) gun forums I frequent, we had a Swiss shooter join in and he did a Q&A on Swiss gun laws. Yes, you need a permit to buy a gun, but it's easy to get, with standards varying between cantons. Concealed carry is basically illegal. Ownership of fully automatic weapons is still legal, but was restricted considerably in 1999. He also said the thing about having to fire all government issued ammo at the range is law, but not strictly enforced and regularly ignored. He posted a few pics of his collection, and trust me, they can own everything we can here in the States, and some things we can't.
  19. Yes, it is. Now they just need to find Harold Godwinson.

  21. Obama's gun control push is falling apart pretty quickly now. The Assault Weapons Ban is DOA. A ban on high capacity magazines isn't going anywhere either. The only change we may see out of this is universal background checks. He's already blaming House Republicans for the inaction, which is funny since he can't even manage to garner majority support in the Senate, where the Democrats have control. The truth is few politicians, Democrat or Republican, wants to touch gun control. And it has nothing to do with the NRA and everything to do with gun owners voting on that issue and having very long memories.
