Hi there, what treats do folk give their dogs to keep their energy levels up on shoot days? I’ve got a wiry modern type cocker who struggles to keep weight on at best of times and cold weather last weekend caused her to nearly collapse. looking to hear what folk give their dogs (other than a mars bar!) to keep energy levels up during the day? Eg brands of energy treats or advice like do you limit excercise the day before to allow glycogen to build up in the dogs liver? first modern type cocker I’ve had, previous ones have been thicker set and never had this problem. TIA

We had a litter of 6 x working cocker pups on June 14th 3 x golden & 3 x chocolate. Both mum and dad are good working stock and mum is also a lovely family pet with a beautiful nature. The main reason for having a litter was because mum is such a nice natured dog I wanted to carry her line on with one of her pups for myself. They are all KC registered - just waiting for the paperwork to come through. The pups are all legally docked and will be vaccinated (1st shot) and microchipped by the time they are ready to leave home on or after August 9th. We've currently got 2 x golden dogs and 1 x chocolate dog looking for a new home. All of the pups are currently still with mum and are being socialised in a family home with other pets and kids. I'm looking for £1100 to PW members. If you're interested, please get in touch and i can arrange more pics, a chat or even a visit if you are local. Cheers Jonty

Set out this morning with my young son and a 10 month old black lab bitch. Some may say I'm asking for trouble, but, we have a very small area drilled with barley early week,so a bit late but there were a few birds flying round yesterday. Set up a large hide, nets and a few fresh branches, settled the boy down with a bit of grub and my old hat and waited. Beautiful weather and we finished with a small bag of 13. But the dog fetched three and was very patient and my son got to learn a whole load of stuff about listening to his teachers and not day dreaming about being out with his dad whilst he should be doing maths. He could tell me how many more I needed to beat my PB but that was an easy number. They are both asleep now but what a cracking day we all had. I love trying to shoot pidgeons and coming home with dinner is a real bonus.

Unfortunately due to unforeseen family circumstances we are forced to sell our beautiful cocker, Millie, she has had her tail legally docked and has also had her first vaccination. She is black with white feet and chest with a little white spot on her nose. although she is not currently kennel club registered we do have her parents pedigree certificates which have 44 FT CH, she is from excellent working stock and is all ready showing signs of being an excellent gun dog. initial training has been started (toilet and house training) She is alert, energetic and extremely affectionate. This is a very painful sale and we do not want any time wasters, in need of a loving home where she will be worked to her full potential. £500 it pains me to post this but it is our only option. please feel free to pm me i will respond as soon as possible thank you for reading, fudd

Me and two of my lambing partners were out lamping on thursday night after a day at the woodcock with no luck! we drove around a few field with no luck then near my dads broiler houses there is charlie standing ten yards away from the car just inside the field. He took off over the hill and my friends and i jumped out and walk about 100 yards into the field, turned the fox pro caller on and waited. after an inpatient 5 minutes we were about to leave when this big boy makes another appearance about 150 yards away, but would come no closer. As we were using a 17hmr i wasn't confident taking the shot too far out so on this wet windy night we took of on our bellies down the side of the hill getting socked. At the bottom my friend got on his hands and knees i leant the rifle on is back and squeezed off the shot, and he says, "down hard". we walk up two check are prey to find its a huge old dog fox in perfect nick, shot right through his left eye on later inspection he is nearly 4 and a half feet long and ways just over 25lb! in my opinion he was we'll worth getting wet for!
