aaron airgunner
as above, i have a hawke reflex 3-10x40 and when im shooting at 30 yrds i nearly always keep it between 8-10x, anything under 20 yrds i take it down to 6-7x. if i'm doing really close range ratting i take it under 5x. what mag do you use most of the time? Hezbear
On my 3-9 scope i normally use 4, 5 or 6x mag
Tobyb525
About 8 for bunnies, 16 for target shooting
Colster
Nearly always 6x on my Hawke Varmint II 3-10x44, that way I don't need to re-parallax for shots between 15 and 40 yards. Only reduce for very close range ratting. Upped it to 10x the other night to watch a barn owl feeding on a mouse (safety on!) but never shoot above 6x. Think I may go for a fixed mag scope next time (unless a bargain WTC comes up)
col s10
3x to 6x dont see the need for any more
tdsmith
4x - 7x on my Hawke Night-eye, it does the job.
Pigeon_snIPer
Hi, I have a 3-9 X32 Winchester on my .177 Crosman Phantom 1000x. 3-6x for anything within 30 yards - beyond that - 6-9x depending on the size of the object/ target. /s/
huntercarbine
i use 6-9 in daylight and 4-6 when lamping. high mag when lamping(hand held lamp 2 people) you might as well have your eyes closed.
richie76
3x9x50 scope. i use x4 for lamping and x6 most of the time in day light
mr salt
The same as richie76. sometimes depending on the gun i will use 3-9x40. you dont need a silly high amount of mag on a sub 12ft airgun! cheers scott. Al Downie
you dont need a silly high amount of mag on a sub 12ft airgun!(ref to pigeons /rats /wabbits/not targets) Maybe when stalking when you have to be a bit quick on the draw, but if you're hidden and have plenty of time to take your shot, there's no reason why you couldn't use high mag and parallax controls to rangefind, and increase your chance of a clean kill. Having said that, I use x6 all the time, and am thinking about switching to a fixed-mag scope...
luckytrigger
x5 when ratting with simmons 3.5-10x40 mounted on falcon prarie at ranges 15-20yds, x12 when rabbiting with my fac eliminator at around 50-65yds (bushnell banner 5-12x40). townsend819
6x for hunting, and for target 24x for rangefinding and 10 for shooting, if you shoot off too higher mag, your long range skills will deteriorate as you get tense due to the wobble, just me though, I know people who shoot off 34x all day no probs. ttalbot09
nothing but 7 mag for hunting. seems optimum for FOV and seeing were shot is being placed between 10-and 40 yards............. and 16 for targeting.

Al Downie
 Swarovski 6 x 42 fixed. Hi WGD - can I ask what gun/calibre you're using that scope on (cos it's one I'd love to buy when I win the lottery...), and what the normal working min/max range you operate at? Do you have any focus problems at the short end of the range?
mikee
on my .22lr ive got a 4-12x50, which is set on x6 zero'd at 50yds for most of my rabbiting and ive got a 3-10x40 on my .243 which is always set on x8 and zero'd at 150yds, if you have it set too high its difficult to pick up quickly what you want to shoot at mikee
