jonno 357
Did anyone watch TOP GEAR last night? Clackson did a test drive on the new M5. He basically said it was a bag of ****e. 400bhp V10 motor BUT and a big BUT if you press the M button on the dash it suddenly turns into a beast. The bucket seat automatically adjust around your lumber region. It automatically switchesfrom pussy driving mode to maniac driving mode and it adds another 107BHP to your right foot, pumping out a massive 507BHP. With a top speed of 204MPH if you remove the limiter Not many super sports cars on the road can match it This motor had more electric gadgets than inspector gadget One of the fastest 4 door saloons ever Snip at £62K :( Want that one :o 2year waiting list for the M5 Jonno

Axe
I caught the program and whilst whatching the report on the M5, I kept saying what a slagging now come on whats the good bit. But I have to admit, the slagging far out weighed the good points. At that price you could have some preety hefty machinery in your garage, that would far over power and out drive the M5. Also, the M5 is very much an ugly car, ain't it?! Who'd pay 62k for that pile of old recycled Austin Metro!!! Infact i'd go as far to say the the Austin Metro was a better looking car!!!!! Why have BMW surcome to picking leaves of the ugly tree, they used to make some ok motors. The Sat Nav especially got my attention, what6 a horrible synth voice. Is that the best they could do. My Volvo has a bloke and good he is too. Mind you, I can change it to a female voice, but she sounds like Margaret Thatcher.....{shudder} !!! Sorry, but i'd sooner buy a TVR that really is good fun to drive. Then use the spare cash to drive round Europe and pay for the breakdown costs, than buy the M5. Regards, Axe. lurcherboy
Many years ago I had the pleasure of being a passenger in a BMW M5 (e38) around Donnington race circuit. I have yet to experienc the same thrill I got then. Yes, I have been on mental bikes, but you don't get thrown around like you do in the M5. Axe
I have to admit, pretty much any car can be pretty exhilerating in the right hands. I took one of those driver days at Brands Hatch, it was an eye opener. Started out in an XR2 that had been made ready for the track i.e. stipped out, roll cage, uprated suspension and tyres etc. Then I was asked to drive around the track while the 'Pro' tested me and gace me a score out of 100. Luckily for me I was awarded 78, he had taken 12 points of for not toe heeling!!! I was surprised at that, as we werent alllowed of 4000 rpm and on a track like Brands thats not very fast. Anyway, after the scoring he then took over the car and demonstrated at slow speed what I should have done, breaking area's and the like. Then he bought it up to speed which was pretty good fun. After this he then said 'ok' now for race speed and this is where things started getting interesting. My harness was as tight as something very tight, lol, but still I couldnt stop my head rolling about and bashing the door frame! I loved it, the guy thought I was nuts and to add insult I said, "ok" but I reckon your taiming it down, can we have a lap completely on the limit?". Suffice to say we did, it was just amazing. Even for a regular engined, race preped, XR2 it was like being in Micheal Schumachers Ferrari. Infact I would go as far to say that, if Joe Public was seated in a Ferrari Modena they would not have been able to keep up with this XR2 driven by the instructor! Finished the day in a formula Vauxhaul similar to a single seat formula ford, but thats a different story. Regards, Axe.
