JonD
Not a great shot but the logic of getting used to a comp vs practice made sense, also being able to shoot at my club every weekend is a bonus Any advice, how do you enter? can you turn up on the day and reg? I'll mainly be shooting ESK, DLT and possibly OSK. Cheers, Jon.
Mungler
I'll mainly be shooting ESK, DLT and possibly OSK. Yeah, I shoot him for that rubbish "darts based" pub quiz on the radio and for wearing a beard

COACH
B) Not a great shot but going to have a go at Olympic Skeet wish I was there to see your face when you do. Good luck. Seriously though, stick to English skeet for a few years, Olympic is very fast. You need to be a very good shot to even try it.
MC
What a crock of ****, nothing like a bit of encouragement is there? If you want to shoot OS then go and do it. That is a bit like saying only shoot the easy stands on a round of sporting as you have to be a good shot to hit the hard ones. I thought you were supposedly a clay shooting coach and instructor, I bet you get on well putting people down. Do you get meny return customers? Catamong
Ouch, someone's got out of the wrong side of the bed this morning..?? I think it's good advice to stick with English Skeet until you can hit them and it ceases to be a challengem, then move up to Olympic Skeet. Cat. Mungler
Jon, don't listen to Cat. Wait for Beretta, now he knows what he's doing
MC
ROFLMFAO, Yes don't listen to a SECOND rate Cat, OK, Ignore my advice. Go and learn to shoot slower easier birds and then go on an OS range. **** me you will think and go back to the ESK. Or you could do as I have suggested and go and shoot OS first and then find you overlead ESK birds.
Dunkield
Give it go Jon, you haven't got anything to loose. The only thing I would say is if you shoot too many of the fixed disciplines to need to relax a bit when going back to sporting, but I think I may have already mentioned that. Let us know how you get on.
100milesaway
Yep i agree with coach and Cat,. Enjoyment first then with confidence have the enjoyment and throw in the odd comp, you will soon get into the cut and thrust, we all have to start somewhere and a baptism of fire will ony demoralise you. Also the sporting shooters are in the main a much friendlier group, so i would start there also lots more variety and your bound to find a particular target that your good on and that will give you more confidence when you come across the tough stuff. from Auntie. beretta
Jon, don't listen to Cat. Wait for Beretta, now he knows what he's doing well im glad we didnt wait for you yesterday prob to hard a ground for you. coach and cat are right learn to shoot the easy version first (like the essex straw bale shooters) and then move on once your technique is up to it. Bigweed
I started shooting about a year ago now - got first shot gun end of October 2008. First skeet scores in were in the middle teens but more recently in the 20's with 5 or 6 straights. Had a go at OSK once and hit a 17. If I'd had gone straight to OSK I'd have been put off immediately - so much faster and of course must be shot gun down with no movement till the clay leaves the house. In my opinion much better to perfect your technique and gun mount in ESK first.

JonD
Cheers guys, The OSK will not be regular, i'm going to focus on ESK and DTL, thought about OSK purely because i used to think ESK was quick then shot OT, only a single round but found when i went back to ESK i had all the time in the world. I hadn't planned to start for another year or so but had a chat yesterday which made sense, the experience will be good with different pressures etc, for some reason I seem to shoot better under pressure. I'm doing it for enjoyment, certainly not expecting to win but if all i see are easy targets there is no challenge. I do need to relax also. Thanks for all the advice Jon.
