welshwarrior
I have been recommended Federal Premium Law Enforcement Buckshot by a freind from the States as a good 00 shot for foxes etc because of the 2 3/4 chamber length. Are they legal here and where I buy them. Or are there better ones?
PWD
I,m sure someone will be bang to rights on this but are the USA sizes diffferent to ours and I think a shotgun shell has to have more than 5 or 6 pellets in it to qualify as legal in the UK Failing that anything bigger/around than a 3 should stop a fox at reasonable range say up to 25 meters Try http://www.justcartridges.com/pricelists.html and click the gamebore price list they do some big sizes..but watch the ££££ not cheap Edited November 26, 2009 by PWD
Daveo26
00 buck is called S.G over here, the balls are 8.4 mm and you get nine in a cartridge they are **** for fox because they dont pattern at all. I fired one at a big aluminium pan i found to demonstrate how great they were to a mate and at 20 yrds i missed completly. I would stick to BB or no. 1 mate. Daveo26
BUT....... If you need to try some out Gamebore do a cartridges called Buffalo in S.G with a fibre wad. I also managed to find some L.G (9.1mm) made by S&B. they are hopeless but quite amusing Edited November 26, 2009 by Daveo26
welshwarrior
Ok they have 9 pellets and a Flitecontrol wad that is meant to 'provide controlled release of shot for the tighest patterns and most pellets on target' they seem to have a high velocity as well 1325 FPS according to the web site

henry d
Or are there better ones? Yes, there are, winchester xx 43gram 2 3/4" copper plated shot buffered in No.4(US size, equivalent to No.3`s here) these are expensive at £1 a pop, but pattern well and bowl foxes over no bother. 00 buck/LG/SG/SpSG are no use whatsoever due to pattern failing before penetration and also increases the chance of maiming or crippling and as a responsible shooter you don`t want that. Ozzy Fudd
i usually carry a few 0's about on the shotgun for fox, i keep the buckshot for what its designed for - cutting down trees, blowing up dishwashers and as a back up against bulls incase the manure hits the fan
casts_by_fly
When I was back home I patterned a bunch of buckshot through my Spartan/Baikal. 00 buck was fine out to 40 yards with the right chokes for a coyote/fox sized animal. However I found #4 buck to be a lot better. At 40 yards I could guarantee 8-10 pellets in the head and neck plus a few more in the front shoulder with the chokes I had (best was an iMod from trulock). With some different chokes I probably could have made 50 yards realistic. I think I settled on Remingon, but I'm not sure on that one. Thanks, Rick
al4x
only time I've used it has been on Muntjack and I have to say the effects are pretty devastating very very effective at 40 yards or less. However I wouldn't use it out of choice for foxes as it will ricochet off trees and also 3's pattern far better and drop them just as well
welshwarrior
Ok so I'll stick with my old no3's just thought I may have found something that would be more humane. I may get a box of 5 (they looked quite cheap when I thought you got 25 in a box  ) just to see how they go on a pattern plate.
