Browning GTS
I am thinking of getting a pump-action for pigeon shooting, at the moment i use a o/u but it is under a year old and is also used for clays and i would like to keep it looking good, but the thought of sitting in the bottom of muddy ditches and throwing it over hedges an fences does not appeal to me so i thought get a cheap new or S/H pump. i will be able to give this a bit of rough treatment and not worry about a few scratches an knocks. Does any one else use one and how do you get on? Edited August 26, 2005 by Browning GTS
henry d
If you shoot well with the OU then why change?it takes ages for me to get used to my semi when I`ve been using the OU regularly, and vice versa.

I agree...... why not just get another o/u and continue or do you need the extra shot?
dunganick
buy another gun of the same model but dont be fussed about its condition, will get it cheaper and it will be a gun that you can shoot well with but not mind of it gets harmed by the odd barbed wire fence

Does any one else use one and how do you get on? I have a Bennelli Nova pump 12 gauge. It has been down chalk banks, in the lake, trod on and submerged in mud, and lots of other places that it shouldn't have been in! It's fully synthetic and is still shooting fine and I can strip it in 30 seconds. However, the importers, Beechwood, are total tossers. When my ejector spring broke (£3-00) I had to wait months and months. I finally sent them a e-mail asking if the spring was coming from Planet Venus with a attachment sent to shooting times (this was visible to beechwood) and surprise surprise, they offered me a new gun. Other than that little bit of trouble the gun is rock solid. The Mossberg is nice though  LB
Cranfield
I have owned four pump autos over the years and have never been able to effectively cycle the second shot, with the gun mounted. I always drop the gun slightly from the shoulder and have to remount it. Not what you want to be doing, with birds among the decoys. Thats one reason why I would never buy another one. Whitebridges
I agree with Cranfield, I've also had trouble re-cylcling after the first shot with a pump. I wouldn't recommend a pump for field shooting. If you can find a cheap semi-auto that would be a great choice. If you can get on with a side by side the AYA yeoman is a great knock about gun, especially if you get one with the chokes bored out a bit. You can normally pick one up for £150.I've had one for years and it has had loads of abuse but still keeps working.
white fox
I have never shot with a pump action, but always thought that the pumping action is something that will cause any hittable birds that haven't spotted you to jink, resulting in a miss. My choices are 12 and 20 S/S and a .410 auto. But there again what do I know, I just enjoy it. WF
