Am I going soft in my old age?

I decided to take the new 20-bore out, just walking around the fields, looking for the odd pigeon on the rape, poking through the snow.

Walked a good three miles or more, around all the hedgerows where I can shoot. Saw plenty of pheasants which was good, and the odd pigeon flighting from the bushes, way too far away for a shot.

There was nothing on the rape though except 20 or so crows.

Then decided to have a mug of coffee and head back to a wooded area just in time for evening flight. By this time the temperature had dropped to -2C.

There were plenty of pigeons coming in to the wood, and I could have emptied a full box on No6s easily. But I never took a shot.

I couldn't bring myself to pull that trigger today... not with the temperatures as low as they were.

I know they are a damn nuisance, but after suffering three days of freezing temperatures, dire conditions through the night and having to scratch around for anything decent to feed on, I decided to show the poor ******* a bit of respect tonight.

Things will be different when it thaws :good:
