ollie
Well done mate, have never tried flighting, but I like walked up as the dog gets working. Just out of interest; 36g seems a lot of shot for Woodcock, I never go over 30g and would usually use 28g.
night owl
sounds a lot mate but its not there very good shots a bit of a funny sound to them instead of the usal bang its more of a loud woshhh and no recal to them eather the french use them for snipe and other small birds you get a very large spread to them as well which is very good as you only get to see the bird for a split second on the flights there loaded with a mixture of no 8 and 10 shot and a lot of it basacly there a spreader load desighned for close range work

ollie
Make the most of the Woodcock N.Irelands getting the band on Thursday! I haven't shot any since Boxing day because they have been getting it so tough. I have amazing respect for these birds and I have imposed a voluntary ban on myself since a week or so ago. I have shot enough for the year and unless the weather improves I won't be shooting more even if the ban is lifted.
night owl
what is this ban and why ?? has it got something to do with the weather ??

CBL
"The wildlife of today is not ours to dispose of as we please. We have it in trust. We must account for it to those who come after." As has been stated on another forum, these three lines sum up our responsibility to our quarry. With the weather as it is, and some quarry species - in certain areas - starting to show signs of the tough conditions, we owe it to ourselves to respect them and exercise voluntary restraint. The need for a formal ban - as in the case of Scotland from this morning - should be largely therefore a formality, already respected (in part or fully) before this time by most shooting folk. I know pigeons don't formally come within the list of quarry species affected, but I would be interested to hear if anyone is seeing signs of them also struggling?
