Hi All,

I have shouldered one of these briefly and liked it.

I have seen one for sale that i'm very tempted by, i have read a few very positive reviews.

It will used mainly for skeet and sporting clays. My main concern is maintainance and what to expect.

What would you guys suggest?

Cheers,

Jon.

I had an Urika one before and it didnt like the clay carts I put in it so I got rid.

I have just bought another one off here and collect it from the RFD tomorrow. I will be using it for clays and pigeons. I might even clean this one !

Go for it mate. :good:

I`v had a lot of trouble with mine not recycling but I still love it.

I need to put a lot of heavier loads through it to loosen it up a bit really.

Cleaning them properly can be a long job though.

But I still say, Go get one and use 70mm 28g or bigger cartridges in it.

Auto`s always work better with 70mm cartridges.

Blaser, thanks for the PM and the link, looks straight forward enough :good:

In real terms how often does it need a full strip? I normally shoot about 200 rounds a week, what cartridges does it like and not like?

I normally shoot Hull InterComp HV 28g but have recently swapped to 21g which i wouldn't expect it to cycle.

The one i'm looking at is synthetic, how easy is it to adjust?

Sorry for all the q's, also how long is it fully assembled? My 30" 525 with a 3/4" addition to the LOP fits fine in my cab, will the Urika?

Cheers,

Jon.

very nice gun. bought mine specifically for clays and really like it. :big_boss:

maintainance is no problem, just a few more bits to clean.

if you buy an optibored one keep an eye on the chokes, they do come loose.

give them a tweak when you first enter the stand - before loading , there was a thread

on here about this it seems they pretty much all do it. :good:

After cleaning thorughly (piston included) every week for the first few months, it didnt need cleaning, i now have just finished my second 250 slab without cleaning the piston and only once cleaned the trigger unit and i can cycle 21grm comp xs in 9s; the recoil is less than my .22 springer. I believe it makes no difference with the cartridge length (65/67mm) in MY gun. The heavist load i have ever used through it is 32g 4s. You will be surprised with how little recoil. I suggest using a decent gunsmith than can alter the shims and kick off in the stock, so that you can get a good fit.

Jon,

According to the manual they recommend a clean every 1000 rounds before a clean is needed but so long as it does not get wet through, which will mean a full clean is necessary, they will go for months as long as the piston is free.

Mine will not work with 21gms but will function perfectly with 24gm Express and any 28gm load I choose to buy.

The stock drop takes about 10 mins to adjust and length is the same as my Miroku 32" trap gun.

If you do not like recoil you will enjoy the Urika. :good:

I have the 391 Urika, it is designed to work down to 21g cartridges and mine does!

Not sure about the II but I understood that was the same.

I'm happy, the only problem I have with any gas operated semi is cleaning the thing, it is important and has to be done properly!!

The Urika is very good, the II is better!!

Thanks for the advice guys!

Having looked around more and downloaded the manual it looks pretty straight forward, quite happy with the cleaning routine required.

Last question, can anyone point me in the direction of where i can date the gun? I have the serial number but it's top money so guessing it's very new second hand or the RFD is asking too much.

I'm planning on chopping the Baikal & slip against it so will depend if the numbers work as to whether i buy it or not and what deal they will do, i bought the 525 from there last year.

I'm planning to buy either a breech flag or safe T plug, pickup stick and 1k carts, SKT choke and longer butt pad at the same time.

BTW, can i use a bore snake in a SA?

Cheers,

Jon.

Another thumbs up from me. Ive got a urika 1 and have had it for years. I used to put 500 cartridges through it every weekend without any problems although these days I shoot a lot less than that. I tend to give it a strip down and thorough clean every 6 months and have never had any issues at all. I use mine for clays / sporting and it happily cycles 21g upto 32g (being the highest ive put through it). Ive only ever had 2 cartridges "jam" in the time ive had it, and not really sure what caused them, but 2 jams out of the thousands ive put through it is acceptable in my book.

The only problem i tend to have is the nut which holds the fore-end on tends to be very hard to undo after a while, involving mole-grips to loosen it off - even after ive cleaned all the threads and put some lube on it.

Hi Jon.The forend cap nut on a 391 does not need to be more than light finger tight and I suggest putting some anti corrosive copper grease on the thread. When you put the gun away loosen it a couple of clicks. The cap nut is a grossly over engineered item that needs to be kept clean so that the spring compresses properly,it takes up the expansion of the barrel as it heats up.

I have had 300 series Beretta autos for many years and have found that they seem to thrive on neglect! I fully strip clean mine roughly every six weeks or 1500 rounds and it is totally reliable and will cycle anything. The new type, serrated, piston on the Urika 2 seems to help.

Last Q i promise. (promised that in the last post lol)

It's up at £895 which from what i have seen is expensive but if it's in immaculate condition and very unused prob not that far off as a dealer price, i have bought from them before so no issue there. With a PX and the other bits i need hopefully a deal can be done.

What's the cheapest you can find these new in the South East?

Cheers,

Jon.
