As some will know I had total knee replacement of my left knee in sept gone, was due to have my right leg done the end of this month but complications with the first knee meant I am not yet ready for that, so went back to see the surgeon last tuesday he say Im not happy with this I want you in friday yes THREE days later, went in today 12.30 given own room sat 30 mins then taken down did a small procedure to bed my knee cap back down, back to the room for 2 hours then ok your wife can take you home, have done some tests and we WILL resolve this, we will get back to you next week.

Just shows what can be achieved by the nhs shame all hospitals are not like mine.

how painful was the knee replacement?.

i'm only asking as i need a new knee because of an accident(5yrs ago) but they won't give me one because of my age.the thing is i'm a joiner and refuse to go on the sick but my knee is starting to affect me financially.

so i was thinking of going private, but after having an exteranl frame fitted to my leg i don't know if i can go through that sort of pain just yet

apparently it's very painful, i know 2 people who've had it done and still suffer with it years on. Sorry!

hey, they re built me, proper barry sheen style....

all i can say is ive well had my moneys worth.... :good:

After a decent stint of racing offroad bikes for years I can say I have well and truly had my monies worth out of the NHS and CICA insurance. :hmm: Probably made more in insurance claims than the time I have had off... :hmm:

Well im a mate of Kdubya i started this by having my right knee replaced in June and when he came to see me in a private hospital (NHS sent me there) sat in my own room watching sky sports. When it was time for him to have his done he told his doc he wanted to go to the same hospital no problem..

As for being painful i did exactly what the doc's told me and i have had no problems what so ever.. :good:

I was in exactly the same postion I have necrosis in both knees (believed to be diving related) but because of my age they were unwilling to replace the knees, instead I had bone reshaping gel injections you name it I had it,(waste of time) then my left leg totally locked and it was ok lets get it over and done with , it is however very very painfull for a few days after the op and then some after that!! I was out shooting after 9 days mind!!

I still have problems with my knee l but as they replaced my knee cap also and that is causing some serious iritation and swelling I have had fluid drained a few times but it still comes back so today I had the knee cap re bedded and I am waiting tests on the fluid to see if it is infected.if not I am going to have steroid injections to help it settle down, then hopefully my other leg will be done.

Its worth noting that it seems to be pot luck with knees they are either bang on or you still get grief? hawkeye had a compartmental replacement ie half the knee, his does not bother him at all, I had a total and four months later I still have some pain and stiffness but nothing like before  my surgeon has said it takes,up to fourteen months for full recovery,

if it needs doing get it done, tell your NHS that regardless of your age you want pain relief and quality of life.

cheers KW

i think i might ask about the half a knee thingy :good::) .i shattered my tibia plataue(bottom half of the knee) into 15 pieces.so i think the top half is ok.but if you don't know or ask you don't get.
