I started at age of six or seven with my mates picking up stubs from factory workers at home time - Disgusting huh -- then odd pack of five Park drive then Woodbine -By time I got to work was smoking as everyone did and tried most brands - Packed up in 1972 and never touched one since.

No one had mention Camels or Strand that I could see.

My first and only cigarette was at the age of around 14 (I took up cigars in my late 20's), it was a Domino from a pack of 5 bought by my friend.

Fortunately it made me violently sick, which ruined my street cred, but paid dividends in the long term.

Incidentally, the local general store he got them from also sold cartridges and would split a box of 25, with the minimum order being 5 cartridges.

when i first started i was 11 i started with lambert and butler the school kids favourite and occasionally mayfair if desperate but then within a few years turned to decents ones JPS john player specials i loved them, i quit 5 years ago now, so i would have been 21 at the time, i don't know how people can afford it i smoked 30 a day but it was £4 for twenty then or about £2.20 for 10. i do miss smoking though i still have cravings!

when i lived at my mum's i always thought my little sister was sneaking in and nicking my jps i use to argue with her quite regularly about it and it wasn't till my mrs started staying over all the time we realised i sleep smoked!! pretty bloody dangerous really but she said i use to be sat bolt up right having a smoke and she could talk to me with no response then i'd finish it off get layed back down happened 2-3 time a night not every night but more often than not, so i had to appologise to my sister

I smoked Players No 6 or No 10 or Sovereign when I was at school.

Then I think it was Embassy in various forms, then Rothmans, then Dunhill or B & H. Interspersed over the years with Golden Virginia or Old Holborn roll-ups  .

Quit 5 years ago, now a fat ****** :)

i weighed 11st when i quit then went up to nearly 16st i'm back down to 14.8 i've never felt more unhealthy, B & H are you a cigarette snob too :sick::sick:

 B & H were always easy to get Duty Free

I was aboout 13 stone when I quit, now just over 17 stone  and seemed to have stopped there. I also have never felt so unhealthy

I'm a great supporter of quitting, but I think the risks of piling on weight cannot be over-emphasized. Doctors always play it down, in order to encourage people to quit smoking, which is understandable, but they should hammer it home that quitters should concentrate on their diet at the same time. There seems to be some namby-pamby attitude that quitting smoking and watching what you're eating is too much at once. They say that the weight gain is easy to solve later, but I don't think it is, I find it harder to eat lettuce than I found it to quit fags :)

i've always eaten loads but apparently smoking speed up the metabolism so they say, so even eating the same you put weight on! your right though my doc told me i could put a bit of weight on, not just under half my body weight again within 4 years, luckily i carry it well and its spread evenly!

i'm gonna try and lose a stone though, so if there is any diets where i don't feel like my throats been slit can you pm me!

Unfortunately for me, I don't carry it well :good: . I'm not particularly big boned and I'm sure it's not doing me any good, I get out of breath up hills, just like when I smoked. I've swapped knackered lungs for an excess of fat to lug around

I'm still looking for a sensible steady diet, but I've not found anything better than Slimmers World :good: . My wife has researched loads of diets and she's a believer in Slimmers World (not that she needs to lose any weight - women :good: ). The good thing about Slimmers World is that on a "Red Day" you can eat a whole cow

My wife does a diet, not sure what it's called. They get food that they can eat, what they call FREE food. She does these home made chips in the oven, eat as many as you want without the risk of putting weight on, they're healthy too.

Chip your potatoes as normal, microwave for five minutes. Tip them in a large baking tray and cover with Olive oil. Bake in the oven until cooked (we like ours browned). Serve up, add Vinegar and Salt to taste. Yum!

:good:

Im sure as teenagers we use to get Red K 20 for less than a pound. Embassy No1, Regal Blue, Navy Issued Blue Liners, B&H, Lambert and Butler or roll ups when I was getting divorced, now Marlboro lights.

I've tried patches but once the boredom sets in at work its out for a smoke.

Has anyone tried acupuncture to help stop smoking? A work colleague had it about 10 weeks ago and has no cravings or desire to smoke.

i don't really eat a lot of junk it's more a case of too much good stuff i eat a lot of pasta's, rice's and good hearty roasts, i don't really eat crisps or chocolate either i think it's 50% stopping smoking and 50% not enough exercise, at the time i was fairly healthy doing weights and playing football plus the smoking kept the weight off me anyway, so was quite thin for my frame i think around the 13-13.6st is ideal for my frame,

i was well gutted when i tried getting quotes for life insurance about 15month ago according to there bloody chart because i'm only 5'10" im classed as borderline obese!

at least when i smoked i could still have a good kick about now i've got no pace or stamina, to be fair though i was in a car crash not too long after i quit and have suffered with my neck and back ever since so can't do sit ups or over do weights as i really suffer so thats not helped my cause much, i'm seeing the physio tomorrow so hopefully she might be able to get me a bit more mobility in my neck. starting too sound like i'm just making excuses for been fat and lazy now aren't i :good:
