tosspot Posted February 10, 2010 Report Share Posted February 10, 2010 Mr Plague, I am not having a pop at you, you read, gleen and learn away i very much respect that, good on yer My point would've been that Mr Darling seems to posthumously have been elavated to some sort of guru when in my (and others that i've spoken) mind he er isn't / wasn't, lived slightly in a different world to most, a jounalistic world. Remember to always take a paint brush with you out in the field to clean your scope lens, er yeah right I have and have read his air rifle hunting book before anyone asks, and as a youth would read his articles in Airgun World and helped form my opinion. bruno22rf Posted February 10, 2010 Report Share Posted February 10, 2010 Surely you mean IS a legend?-After meeting the man at a gamefair a few more years ago than i care to mention my opinion of him is somewhat different to yours but what the hey-to some people the crankies are a legend.I would be willing to wager that if armed with a laptop,some decent piccies and a good imagination that ANYONE could spend a couple of months writing a hunting book and pass himself off as the best puffgun shooter in the land without ever even picking up a gun.The majority of writers in the airgun mags make their living from repetitive texts that have been regurgitated a million times and sold to young guns as the latest news.Once again-no dissrespect to JD or his kin-he was a master of his trade . Obviously he was a journalist so he could earn money, but on the flipside he must of taught a lot of people about how to respect your quarry and how to hunt responsibly. One of the best fieldsports writer's ever, plus he was a great angler too. He was a real star and someone we all to look up to. May he rest in peace.
