Marcus
On my gun at least........take the butt pad off and underneath you will get access to a large screw / bolt which will release the stock from the metal etc May need a long screw driver

The butt plate usually comes off to reveal some mechanism for holding the woodwork to the action, worth a look! ATB!!

After removing the butt plate I found a large bolt inside, once undone it all came apart. I taped all the screws to the trigger gaurd so as not to lose them then put every thing in a locked drawer so no one could touch them. The bonus was that I have found that my stock is made of a nice piece of walnut. Any idea where I can get some walnut oil. Best of luck with yours. SSS
**** me you can't drink the stuff!! No don't think it does mate, if it isn't working, let it soak into the wood a bit more and give it a good rub (no pun intended)

Anni
Get some Paramose striper if you can, much better then Nitromors. Slap it on and leave for a bit then slap more on top of that and keep slapping it on with a paint brush and work in well. Let the stripper do the work and keep putting it on, you should be able to brush all the finish off the stock this way, then use some Grade 3 wire wool, Trollull is the best stuff its oil free, rub it all of with that and it will start to sand it aswell. remember not to get your oily fingers on the bare wood finish with oil as soon as you can and don't leave it near heat to dry.
