motty
Why would having a hide standing out like a sore thumb, put off pigeons? Pigeons don't know what hides are and aren't scared of them- they're scared of the bloke inside. My dad once drove up to me on a farm track to join me on a pea field. He said that my hide stood out like a sore thumb. I explained that he knew i was shooting and the pigeons didn't. That's why he saw my hide easily and i had a big pile of pigeons next to me. I think some people get too hung up on trying to make hides almost disappear. I think this to be one of the least important parts of setting up. Just because a hide can be easily seen by a human, doesn't mean a pigeon will notice it.
shooternick
What's a flash suit? I would understand flash suits being used to protect against fire and heat but how is that applied to working on power lines? a flash suit is one of them things stockbrokers in the city wear isnt it ? HDAV
That is not correct, it can damage the outer sheathing/ protective coating and leave whoever is responsible with a serious bill. That is why you should never shoot birds off wires, nor shoot towards wires with a shotgun. Erm there are cables running through the middle of a local clay ground! John_R
OK, so the very high lines on steel pylons are not coated, I apologise for the error. However I was reminded by this discussion of a plan to run fibre optic data lines along the same cables. What they are already doing is spiral wrapping the uppermost cable, and this is how it is intended to cover the entire UK with high speed data lines. http://www.t-impact.com/success-stories/energis.html edit: spelling mistake! Bluebarrels
Easy one this if you choose to set up your hide under a pylon just use 28g loads, apparentley they havent got the power to kill a pigeon,so should do no harm to overhead cabling BB

motty
Stick one up in the middle of Thirty acre stubble field and see how well you do. I've done that plenty of times with good results.
anser2
I was talking to the a power company maintance guy the other day and he told me the majority of cable repairs he does are due to shot gun pellets damaging the electric cables.
