Not found a decent mod for a HMR or WMR yet, they all seem to have shortcomings, even tried the odd centrefire mod on them and still not much use.

I find the SAK to be as good as any, especially for the money, not great, but it's never going to be!!

The original question on this thread is very similar to one I was about to post. I have a SAK mod on my 17HMR which I am relatively happy with as I know that you are not going to get completely rid of the sonic crack from this rifle, I have also tried a Parker Hale mod and found that there is very little difference between the two. However, a good friend of mine who I was chatting with tonight says that the Sako Sound Mod will do a much better job of quietening the 17HMR down than the Sak or the Parker Hale mod will. Does anyone have any experience with the Sako mod on a 17HMR and if so what is their opinion please?

I think the SAKO is the best on .22lr but have not tried it on the HMR due to the plastic baffle stack, I can't see it lasting.

I bought the Sirroco after reading THIS and destroyed the baffles in less than 100 shots, Edgar Bros. posted me some stainless baffles FOC which seem to do the trick. It sometimes sounds a lot quieter than my old SAK and sometimes sounds about the same

I would say that unless you are going to be shooting thousands of rounds a year go with the SAK, they do burn out in the end though but are as cheap as chips (£30 chips :) )

cheers all thought as much its about time someone made a good 17 mod for a good price it seems louder now i have had barrel cut down to 16 in

thanks again all for help

Almost all the noise is the sonic crack, listen to somone shooting from 50yds away and you will see-there will be hardly any muzzle report.

I had the Sako mod on my last WMR, tried it on the HMR, along with an assortment of other mods, but no discernible difference to the SAK.

I have a SAK on my .22lr and .22WMR, and a Sirocco on my .17HMR, just because I have, I'm not impressed with the Sirocco, but it has done a few 1000 rounds, when its had it's day it will be replaced by a SAK.

Used to have a Sako on my last WMR, sold it just before Christmas 2009 and replaced it with a brand new WMR to which I fitted a SAK.

I have come to the conclusion over the years that the difference in moderators for most people in most situations is not worth talking about.

And whilst I have a lot of time for the Wildcat Predator 8 mods on centrefires, I think the Wildcat Whisper is the biggest waste of money going on a rimfire!

Personal view as always!

ATB!

Have you looked at the baffles ever or does it have the stainless ones already, mine had big ragged holes in several of the cones after 50 shots and got noticeably louder.

Was the Sako's plastic baffle OK on the WMR? I have always wanted to try mine on the HMR but thought it would kill it.

Stainless, but not impressed just the same

Yep, it was fine, only got rid of it with the rifle because it was getting very old and decided on a new mod with a new rifle, but no burning desire to get another Sako, so just bought a SAK for it!

wildcat whisper mate . superb @£125

:lol::hmm: the only honest owner I know regretted the day he bought it and wasted £125, it was all but identical to the Sirocco on mine, and the SAK we tried it against..it's also heavier than both...if you are happy then it matters not what I think, but £30ish SAK wins every time for me!

I've got a SAK and a Sirocco 11, the HMR is eating hell out of both of them, and there is no real difference in noise between them :hmm:

I have the Sirocco on my HMR and the SAK on my .22lr and .22WMR, obviously tried all on all, and a number of other mods as well, if anything the SAK edges it for me..but interestingly the Sirocco has done around 4000+ shots so far and not showing any problems...the SAK on the WMR is all but brand new. But Jackson rifles rate it for 10,000 shots on HMR/WMR and offer a lifetime 60% replacement deal (over and above any warranty) so if your SAK is falling apart talk to Jackson Rifles :lol:

The whole point of a strippable mod is that you can strip and clean it (I suppose) perhaps mod life would be longer if I tried that once in a while!!! ta for the info

Ring edgar brothers if the sirocco is burnt out, they will post you stainless baffles free of charge. Its a ****** to get the old ones out if you haven't cleaned it though :D
