What Questions do they ask?

They never really asked me any questions just went through the do's and dont's.

True for me too - mostly.

One question I was asked, during a walk-about of one of my permissions (The Farm right out back my back door), was "where are the public footpaths?"

Other than that - no questions - just do's and don'ts

' Why do you wish to own a Shotgun' was really the first question I was asked, which the stock answer is 'Like to take up Clay and Rough Shooting' which led to talking about the lessons I have already had, and the Clay grounds I have visited, which ended up having a long and very nice discussion about guns, cartridges, mounting, eye dominance, guns smiths, other clay grounds, rough shooting, a talk about security, I had 'upgraded' my security prior to the visit, and already had a cabinet installed which I was using for my Air Rifles, my FEO was satisfied I met all the 'criteria' and was pleased to issue me with a SGC, he also offered to ring me when my SGC was ready so I could go and collect from the Firearms Team about 4 miles from me.

Basically, you have to show 'good reason' to own a shotgun, the FEO on his/her visit will 'sound you out'.

just had a general chat with mine, i think i asked him more questions than he asked me.

how many guns i could have, cartridge storage and quantity etc.

i was pretty confident and had installed a cabinet already and he checked that at the same time.

was altogether a pretty painless experience.

he did ask about what i wanted it for, which was clays

and if i was a member of any other local clubs, not shooting related.

for what its worth he seemed a nice guy, seemed very aproachable.

He's going to gauge you as a person, because he's putting his pension on the line eveytime he signs and SGC. I ended up discussing the recent anti-social-behavouir act and various other 100% non-shooting topics!

Best of luck, and if you have made it this far your odds on the make it all the way!
