Been to my local rfd today, and asked him if he could re-choke my barrel from full to 1/2 or 1/4 he said

yes my gunsmith can do that for you it costs about £35 a barrel

my question is do you think this is a fair price and as any of you lot had it do before ?

thanks mark

I'm curious as to how they do this, do they actualy machine away material from the barrel or is it more of a stretching operation (like when they ease a dent from a barrel).

I was told £40 a barrel when I casually enquired while buying some carts at Donaldsons in Bletchley so not much variation there.

Passing the correct size reamer for the chosen choke down the barrel.

Is this the same as regulating where the choking was classified according to pellet count rather than a drilled dimension, or am I away on a different tangent on this?

Basically yes. When regulating, which should be done for a proper job, after the reamer has been put through a, for want of a better description, lead plug covered in grinding paste on a rod is used to make the final adjustments needed to achieve the desired pellet count for the chosen degree of choke.
