Scope is a Bushnell Trophy 3-9 x 40 with a lamp mount added.

I see you did'nt go for the scope developed to go with this gun DS .Was it a Burris?

Sakos are nice guns ..but i'm a walnut and blue man :o but i imagine the build quality to be superb. How much did it set you back DS? ,excuse my cheek

Kip

My intentions are to ventre into a high velocity .17 rd but early reports on the mach2 say effctive no further than 100yds so i can't see the point .It'll be the Hmr for me.

Geeze.........I,m suffering from some serious i wants at the mo

Thanks for the interest. I was getting a CZ but managed to handle the quad. I had the FAC and money so go for it I thought, and as I've said elsewhere on here, I like something different.

Being left handed I find the short travel on the bolt very helpful. I like the balance and weight too.

As fot the Burris scope, if you had all 4 barrels its a must but if you have 2 you can use a normal scope as long as you keep a note of the settings.

Nice peice of kit DS, looking forward to hearing how yuou get on with it. I myself am going to be getting one in .22LR then .17HMR. When the ticket finally arrives that is. :D

As for the Burris scope, I reckon the same as you. No need to get it with just the two barrels, or at least thats what I am hoping.

I've been out tonight for a good hour and done some good work with it. 4 clean kills out of 5 shots using a scope mounted light. No great distance but its given me an insight to what can be done.

Hopefully by the time the game bird laying season is here I'll be good enough to take on Jim crow and his pals that think they are well out of .22 range. Thats the theory any way.

I had a piece of polystyrene with me tonight to practise fox calling and I could hear one in the distance barking. Didn't call the fox but a Barn owl nearly came in the truck cab with me, not a sound but felt the wind off its wings. Its been a great night!

Not wanting to take the wind out of your sails but if you're going to shoot foxes get a suitable calibre rifle, the 17HMR is a good rabbit and crow round but is not suitable for foxes. If you're ticket says vermin and ground game you are not authorised to shoot foxes with it either.

The legal side of it with regards the ticket must directed at the constablury you are under. Wording on tickets was discussed at leangth not long ago. Its evident that different forces use different wording to mean the same, unfortunately.

As for the 17HMR, i'm no expert as I am awaiting my grant but the FEO has cleared me for this calibre for use on Fox.

It's all down to experience...............These small High velocity calibres are ok in the right hands as are .22lr BUT YOU NEED TO SQUEAK THE FOX IN CLOSE .I'm with JRDS on this as the last thing we need to promote is the fact that these calibres are suitable and therefore giving the wrong impression to the lesser experienced shooter.

PS I'm talking in general and making no reference to Anybody else whatsoever

1 FAC air rifles are not suitable for animals larger than vermin or ground game.

2 .17 Remington and .22 Hornet would be suitable for use against vermin in specific circumstances only

(see paragraph 13.17).

3 Vermin & Ground Game and other Small Quarry - rat, hare, rabbit, grey squirrel and other similar sized quarry.

4 Medium Quarry – fox, feral cat and other similar sized quarry.

5 Larger Quarry – feral goat, deer, boar, and other similar sized quarry.

6 Dangerous Game – lion, elephant, buffalo, bear etc.

7 But note legal requirements for shooting Roe Deer in Scotland.
