Hiya,

I cant see past a Rapid 7 in .22 flavour, I got my FAC one a few weeks back and it's awesome. Even though it's only running at 26ftb just now I can get clean head shots on rabbits at 80 yrds and this is what I did to 2 used 12g cartridges end on at 62 yrds with 16 grain AA fields

And you can't argue with that. If I could have been bothered with all the charging gear a Rapid is the way I would have gone too. There are just too many recommendations to ignore it. As it is I went for a gas ram, which means no bipods, sticks or the like and therefore a subsequent drop in long range accuracy (well at least until I have a lot more practice). Fortunately if its a long range rabbiting session I can take the hmr.

for long range accuracy you cant argue with it  I have no issues with using it out to 80yrds as the pellet is still going clean through the rabbits head at that range and they don't run

yes the charging can be a bit of a pain but it's easily sorted for a few extra quid, which I think is a small price to pay for the performance it gives. I have a slot for a .22lr but having been out shooting alongside one I don't really see what benefit buying a 22lr will give me over the Rapid. A HMR would be nice but the noise is a no no as I'm shooting around live stock just about all the time.

you now have a really good choice out there nowadays.

Price is not going to be that much different either, You have the most popular choices such as R7, Air Arms, Daystate, Ripley, BSA they are the most popular for good reasons.

Power wise i would stick to around the 30ftlb mark you could stetch to say 36ftlb using AirArms pellets with fairly good results if you go much over that then you will need to go for the more specialised pellets. Shot count will also be a major factor, plus as your aware the charging gear. Its also worth thinking about those with buddy bottles, you could take a spare out in the field with you, but with say the AirArms 410 its not possible.

If money was not an issue imy first choice would be a Daystate air ranger around £1000 mark then add to that scope Bi pod and charging gear so total around £1500

or if money was an issue then AirArms 410.

R7 very good i had one for 12 years brilliant bit of kit set at 33ftlb

My vote goes for the rapid, not that i am biased at alll owning a mk-2 .25@48fpe, my nv gun a mk-2 .22 @40fpe and just aquired a mk-1 .20 @24 fpe. all deadly accurate the .25 & .22 out to 75 yds + depending on conditions

but that aside any modern fac pcp is genrally good for the job, good luck in your choice and enjoy.

Cheers for all the replies, when i put my varation in do i put on the moderator/silencer too??

Hi had a rapid MK1 running at 28ft/lbs in .20 calibre, but sold it as it was too heavy, have now got an Air Arms S 410 extra in .22 cailbre, but the thing I like about this rifle is that you can turn the power down if you need too.

very accurate gun and lighter than the rapid

and yes put the moderator on as well, even if you dont use one
