Evil Elvis
Im having a friendly debate with a mate on here who doesnt believe that i can hit a rabbit at 300 yards with my .222. I did it once, it was witnessed by 2 people and measured. I took one shot and one rabbit was blown to pieces, it didnt suffer!! i also thought it was a relativley easy shot.I havent tried since as i havent seen one at that range and the crops are too high now. Could you do it? I believe the .222 is an accurate little round and that I am capable of hitting an adult bunny at 300 yards, your opinions please, particularly mr logic. the round is remington premier accutip-v boat tails 50gr. Frenchieboy
I've not tried it and to be honest I am not sure that I would want to but I can see no reason why it would not be possible!
Devon Fox
I owned a 222 for 5 years or so (since changed to 243). I do not claim to have shot a rabbit at this range - however i have shot fox & rabbits at the 200 yard + range and the round is definitely capable. Guest stiv24
A .222 is more than capable of the ranges you mention. When I had mine my longest kill was around 270 yards.
Evil Elvis
The first fox i shot with mine was 240 yards and didnt really represent much of a challenge tbh, but thats the gun as much as it is me Frenchie, i only shot the rabbit as my mate challenged me to do it...................i usually use my hmr for rabbits Edited June 5, 2010 by Evil Elvis
SSS
Is hot 1 at 220 this morning, which wasn't a difficult shot. If the conditions were right, I think it could be done fairly easily
JackReady
Anything is possible. You could get it out to 1000m is you elevated the muzzle high enough. The question is why would you want to.
plinker
i use exbal and my favourite warren gives me kills between 320- 360yds i shoot it regularly every summer with my triple ,so theres your answer.
codling99
cant say ive tried it,but cant see there being a problem of a bipod or a bench, bit shaky of sticks though
Dead-Eyed Duck
I don't understand this post. Anyone with a half decent 222/223 and decent scope could do it, but why? Put out a rabbit sized target and see what kind of groups you get.

bionicle
Yep, Baz that was a great shot on the day and taken using my shoulder as a rest. I went back over the following day with the range finder and give or take 10 yards it was over 300 yards. Dam good shooting mate.

Zero and practice and hope it isn't windy and you can use a bipod and the ammo is good...yes..what's the problem!...I can V Bull a 223 at 600 yards...thats a dead bunny! BUT............................ .....and I knocked down a bunny at 258 yards, witnessed and range checked with a 17g HMR, and a pal of mine did the same trick at 285 yards...SO!!! It doesn't happen every day! The law of averages says if you chuck a coin in the air enough it will land on its edge eventually! Enough already... Mr_Logic
There's no problem with that shot at all. I've not done it with a 222. Shot a fox at 300 with the 243, but the problem I have is that the land is flat and the rabbits aren't shootable at that range most of the time. Mind you, at the range in vairable conditions, more often that not it's first shot = v-bull with the 223, so I see no reason why not. Certainly if someone says they shot a 300 yard rabbit, unless I another reason why I doubt them, I have no trouble accepting that.

All I meant was that I could not see much sence in using a .222 for rabbit as it was such an overkill. I can understand you taking the shot to show it can be done, I actually did it once with my 22-250 with a rabbit - It was certainly a very "Humane and Quick Kill" but there wasn't much left to pick up unless you had a hover type vacuum cleaner handy!!!!!!!!! Evil Elvis
No offense taken mate!!! yes, there was a lot of bright pink spaghetti around after i shot it, my daughter was slightly flabbergasted by it for a second, then wanted to know what all the different organs were...kids eh? henry d
Yes, very possible, but I don`t want to do it as either me the dog or the ferrets prefer to eat them. Hoodie crows/foxes and smaller "varmints", that`s another thing !
