Gordon R
Went today with Nick T and a couple of other friends. I have complained about the road in the past - they have made a decent effort - well done. Last time we went they were open from 12.00 noon. We arrived 12.35 - not yet open. Advised it opened at 1.00pm. 1.00pm came and went - new computer being installed.. At 1.20pm - proprietor said - "we won't be a minute". Over 15 minutes later - they were ready - very slow dealing with us. It was a painful experience. I appreciate that a new system was being installed, but being a guinea pig was not a good experience. I checked the web site when I got home - in June it is a 2.00pm start. I was asked for a credit card to leave with them. In this day and age, I know of no-one with a brain cell who would let their credit card out of their possession. They settled for the keys to my works. If memory serves - prices had increased since my last visit - about a year ago - by £2 per 100. Getting my keys back was a similarly slow process. We had a 10% no birds allowance. The explanation to the lad in front of us was that if you paid for 100 clays, your card would have 110 on it. If you had three no birds, you got 7 freebie clays. We had 8 no birds at the first stand. Our no birds were in excess of 20%. We laughed about the freebie clays all the way round, in sort of ironic way. There were also some really stupid coloured clays against poor backgrounds. None of the four of us will ever, ever visit again - it's too much like hard work. Edited June 9, 2010 by Gordon R
Nicky T
Anni and I also went down to Worsley today for a shoot and as Gordon mentioned yes they were having a new computer system installed today so everyone that visited was a guinea pig In the summer months the opening hours on a Wednesday are 2-7pm so plenty of time for a shoot. We turned up at about half two, had the new system explained to us and the fact that until it was fully operational you would be asked to pay upfront and would automatically have 10% no-bird allowance added to your card. If you didn't encounter the full 10% then the excess were yours to shoot for free, but if you encountered more then tough chuddy. I'd assume that if you encountered a particular bad stand for no-birds you would either move on or seek one of the ground staff out to fix it Out of the 220 clays on our card (200 + 10%) we maybe had 8-10 no birds so got a few freebies at the end  I'm sure that over the course of a year everything will balance out and suspect that you'd actually benefit from the 10% allowance. Enjoyed shooting some different coloured clays today - they had a pair of simo yellow crossers on stand 4 and a pink crosser on stand 9 from what i remmeber. Didn't see anything set too silly though Edited June 9, 2010 by Nicky T
Gordon R
Nicky - they had a pair of yellowish / green clays quartering right to left against a very poor background. Four of us had trouble picking them up. They dipped fairly quickly as well. They aso had right to left high roller followed by a pinkish left to right crosser which appeared on various trajectories - some hit a tree before we shot, others hit the floor fairly sharpish. One went up in the air - we gave up on that clay after about 5 no birds.
beretta
over the years i have witnessed grounds throwing very odd colours before, they tend to buy them in job lots after big championships somewhere on the planet have done with them or had extra stock made and not used. either way they prob got them very cheap so good enough to practice on but not good for the shooters. The yellowish greenish quartering ones were stand 4 - it took me a couple of pairs to get used to where to pick them up but once that had clicked i shot a 7 out of 8 on that stand when i returned. The other stand you talked about was stand 9; i think that i must have got lucky as all of the pink left to right crossers were hittable and i straightened it with an 8. Must be the Hidefspexs helping me out
Gordon R
Nicky - well done on the pinkish crosser. We kept getting no birds then we noticed them hitting a bush. Between three of us - we gave up on the clay before the fourth one shot - we had one which appeared to be on the correct trajectory. I wouldn't stake my life on that because we didn't see enough to judge. We just got fed up shouting pull - the counter moved down one - and getting nothing. It got just a bit wearing. We could have trudged back to the clubhouse to complain about the no birds, but we would have spent a fair amount of time walking backwards and forwards. The attitude to no birds is as you say 10% no-bird allowance added to your card. If you didn't encounter the full 10% then the excess were yours to shoot for free, but if you encountered more then tough chuddy. Because of the delay starting we only shot 50 each - so took 3 or 4 pairs at each stand - didn't really see enough on some stands to learn from our errors. Last time we went, we shot 200 plus each person. I have shot there on and off for 25 years. The ground has become more sophisticated - facilities, cafe, clubhouse, computer system??, but seems to have more no birds and less imagination with the clays. It might be my memory, but the only things that have improved are the road - plus the new skeet range. Nicky T
It seems that Worsley are in the transition period where they are trying to make some really good changes and only time will tell how successful they are  I'm sticking with it for the time being as the benefits of the new system seem to outweigh the short term downsides... Nicky T
So have they started issuing the new "personal" cards now ? or whats the computer system for ? That's what they are working towards. Apparently David has got the cards in they just need to get everything in order and then they'll issue the cards (apparently)
dale u
The new system with the cards sounds like it will be a right pain in the backside. Each shooter putting their own card in after shooting a stand. It takes some people long enough on the stands as it is. As was said before see how it goes in the short term. Its comp this Saturday so that should test the system out.
Gordon R
Much as I don't rate the organisation, the actual card worked well. They just couldn't seem to decide whether you paid before or after. It seemed to change whilst we were waiting. I hope they have sorted out their system before weekend or there could be fun. Chard
I didn't like the sound of the new system when it was explained to me I wasn't sure about the no bird situation. Because the thing counts down, I could see you running out of clays before the end of a shoot if you had a bad no bird day, and having to buy more or kick off about the no birds till it got sorted. Hassle. Currently, you just keep racking up the no birds on Claymate and you can argue the toss when you've finished, without having to go back to the office mid-shoot to sort it out. I haven't been for ages anyway, except the Help For Heroes shoot. I can't afford all this registered shooting and club shooting as well, so I've not renewed my membership  Edited June 9, 2010 by Chard
Ian E
Iam planing on doing the comp, so will be there Saturday, to see what a mess they have made of it, or not as the case maybe. I must admit, Iam sorry I renewed my membership this year, last time I finally managed to get there on a wensday they only had 7 or 8 stands open as they had a clay delivery, why the hell have a delivery on an open day, there bloody shut 4 and a half days a week for christ sake also to be meet with a price increase for members and none members alike and don't even mention the last comp, which was cancelled cos the ref had to shoot the same bird a couple of times on one stand I would rather spend my money elsewhere sadly theres nowhere else to do that locally. Nicky, u fancy opening a clay ground  One positive thing I would say they have generally improved the quality of the targets.
