sitsinhedges
What are the best tactics for decoying over swathed rape
RAMMER BURT
dont trample the swathed rape or you will do more damage than the pigeons,i dont normaly shot swathed rape because of this but when i have i put the decoys in between the rows and the magnet right next to a row of rape the problem i have found is that swathed rape tends to have very long stuble to lift it off the ground so it dries underneth,if you have a dog leave him/her at home so not harm the dog rape has very long and tough stuble it's not that great to walk on let alone pick up dead pigeons from
Highlander
Swathed rape is one of the trickiest crops to shoot over. The seed will fall out of the crop just by looking at it and then it’s lost to the farmer. The yield from a field of rape that’s swathed rather than desiccated whilst standing can be -15/20% so it’s not hard to see why farmers rarely swath rape these days. OK they will save a bit on the chemicals but not a lot and with prices currently on the up (due mostly to the hot/dry weather across Europe this spring/summer) farmers will want the best tonnage they can get. When shooting swathed rape you need to be extra careful otherwise you will do way more damage than any number of pigeons...and farmer will not thank you for that. proTOM1
Setup how you would normally setup ,my farmers who swath there rape like me shooting over it as pigeons can hammer it at times and all they eat is lost and will not grow again . Normally find farms with smaller combinesdo swath as a big combine will have problems with swath as it will not be picking up enough and will not sort it in the same way a smaller combine does # Get at them i will be very soon

Beardo
It has been cut but left in place to dry - as opposed to it being harvested
al4x
we used to have cracking days on it, just jump over the swaths to avoid damage and set some decoys on the rowed crop and jobs a goodun!

Catamong
Ten years ago in our area 90% of the rape was swathed, now it's the other way around, most of it is sprayed off and cut straight through by the combine. I'm not a great lover of Pigeon shooting at this time of year, far too many other things to do, although there have been some massive bags shot on swathed rape in the past. Cat.
