ste 2712
Hi all, i need some advice! I have just come back from florida where i had my first real taste of sporting clays before now it has just been shooting singles on a relatives farm once a year! whilst i was there (tenoroc shooting ground) i was loaned a cesar guerini . (summit i think) and got speaking to two gentleman that offered for me to tag along so i started shooting and was asked if i had done this before to which the reply was that above! i asked why an the thought that if i had such little experience that i must be a natural!! i ended up getting 92 /100 clays !(all pairs) i was well pleased with my experience i ended up going 6 more time before i came home! my problem is after shooting i spoke at length to these guys who turned out to be instructors at the club about gun choice to which i was told there is no point going for anything less then what i was shooting! it would only hamper my abilities, surely this can't be true or i hope not because i cannot afford a guerini although it was lovely to shoot an was told it fitted me perfectly ! so my problem is i need to know what gun would be good for around £800 i know its not much but it's all the mrs will let me have!!!! p.s i only applied for my sgc last monday !! RAMMER BURT
hi fella as they say you do get what you pay for,my mate changes hes gun 3-4 times a year he bought a dt10in jan then a ceser in march then a 3 shot in may then a mk38 trap in july he still has all the guns he bought this year but cant shoot the mk38 trap so has gone back to the auto so no i dont think that just because a gun cost's 3 grand it shoots any better than a gun that cost 500 quid it's all a about image most of the time so dont let it worry you. clayman
The only gun to buy is the one that fits you. A £100 Baikal that fits will hit more than a £10,000 Perazzi that doesn't - get some lessons on gun fit so that you know what a fitting gun feels like, and buy the one in you budget that fits the best. welshwarrior
Gun fit is the key buy a gun that fits if thats a £100 Russian Purdey or a £100,000 Holland and Holland the gun fit dicates if you hit anything. I would look at a gun around £600 - £ 750 than fits you well (good id good enough) to start then once you have a settled gun mount have a proper gun fit and get your adjusted to fit you. pegleg31
i don't care what anyone say's you do get what you pay for. when i was starting out some friends took me shooting, one had a lanber the other had a dt10.hated the lanber,no matter how i held it it smacked me in the face.i loved the dt10 so bought one. all beretta's fit me well and shoot really well,i can't get on with browning's but you'll have other people say the opposite. i also have a larouna which shoots ok but i can tell the differance between that and my beretta.i cheap gun that i like the look of is the bettinsoli's don't know how they handle though. but for your budget you should be able to pick up a nice second hand beretta, browning or miruko(same as browning) Edited July 20, 2010 by pegleg31
fluke2
I tried a guerini nice gun and I found it very similar in fit and handling to my 686e beretta maybe slightly heavier, the money you have would buy a nice used beretta or other popular makes try before you buy I do, and if you are a natural shot it shouldnt take you long to get sorted. DSPUK
In my clay shooting hay day I used a £150 semi auto with forend held on with cable straps - Now my gun is more upmarket and not shooting so well - waste of £300 changing guns. Find a gun in your budget that fit's, the fit if the most important factor. Then shop around, Sealand are pricey. If you want to try a few give us a shout we are local and shoot NWSS regular (Beretta / Browning / Miroku) The CLA gamefair this weekend is also a good place to get sorted, lots of choice and advice, and bargains. Cheers, Mitch Edited July 20, 2010 by MITCHF
welshwarrior
Sealand is pricey but do give a warrenty. Jacksons is behind the Take Away near Morrisons. Old school dark room with Mr Jackson behind the counter in his long brown lab coat, he is really helpfull but only has a small stock but is honest about them have bought from him and would go back again.
