goldeneye243
I just bought a Miroku MK70, having been shooting a Lanber. I am happy with the fit, but having been used to a rubber butt pad on the Lanber, my shoulder is a little sore from the hard plastic butt of the Miroku. Is there a fairly thin but more forgiving pad I can replace the plastic one with, or should I just not be a wuss and get used to it?

steve_b_wales
You could put a slip on type of recoil pad. It's like a boot that fits onto your stock. Retailing for around £12.
Gordon R
Get a thin recoil pad. No point in being uncomfortable.
adam f
Ive a similar issue and have ordered one of these. More 'proper' looking than a slip over boot. You sand them to fit the profile of your stock. http://www.euroguns.co.uk/acatalog/info_94505_7.html
goldeneye243
Is there a pad that can be easily fitted to a curved stock, or a specific one for the Miroku? I have had a look around and can't see one online. I would prefer not to have a slipover type. Edited July 21, 2010 by goldeneye243
Gordon R
There is no specific pad for a curved butt. You will have to get it made flat, if you fit a butt pad. The slip on type might well be the answer. You can tape a piece of cardbord or similar to the butt, to flatten it and slide the cover on. I have one on a Winchester 23 and it works fine. I'll have to have a look tonight - It might be that it is flat already, it looks it in the pic on the Miroku website
seeker
From memory (?) I thought the Miroku wood is flat. For thin, light and absorbent have a look at the Isis Recoil Pad.... easy to sand too.
Bloke
If you wear a shooting vest, why not buy a recoil pad to slip into the shoulder pocket? Doesn't matter what gun you shoot then. I bought a Browning reactor thin gel pad for about a tenner off the 'bay = only about 4mm thick and made all the difference, mind you I don't really suffer with recoil too much, but I did notice after 200+ cartridges no aches at all. goldeneye243
I have just ordered a 14mm Isis pad following a conversation with them. It will apparently conform to the stock without needing to adjust it. I will feedback as to how well it fits/performs in a few days or weeks..... goldeneye243
Fitted the Isis pad this morning. Quite easy to fit (I used a belt sander). Conforms to the slightly concave stock perfectly. I would recommend to any Miroku or Browning owners that want a pad, but don't want to alter their stock (the screw holes were also in the same place...) reggiegun
Hi Mate, How did it fit the concave part of your stock does it come ready shaped or does it bend when screwed up. Cheers, Reggiegun
goldeneye243
It fits the concave stock - It bends when the screws are tightened. Mine looks like this now. Took a couple of hours to get it shaped and fitted. Supplied with a marker pen to colour it in from green too!
Oli
Apologies for resurrecting an old thread but is the isis pad still a good option for adding some recoil protection yourself or has something else come to market since, i too have a mk70 and whilst i dont have any issues with the recoil in the shoulder i am finding it is playing my back up especially when shooting by myself due to getting through a lot more shots in a shorter time frame? Oli
Lighter carts? Cheers and yep I was going to move down to 24s once ive got rid of the current lot, was currently using either 28 fibre gamebores or hulls 27 plastics depending on where i was shooting both of which seem to kick pretty hard. i tried some hull compx 28s interestingly they seemed to kick less than the 27s. will be picking up some 24s for my next outing though. shaun4860
You wont find a lighter recoiling cartridge than the Hull Comp X range, try a box of each in 21g/24g/28g and see which you prefer Quite cheap as well.... I put a Kickeeze pad on my Browning, you can get quite a thin one, but it did need the stock shortening, and therefore was flat making it an easy fit ( I put mine into the gunsmiths to do)
Oli
thanks, i spoke to the guy that does the isis pads and he was v helpful, going to try dropping down the cart sizes though first and see if that helps before spending any pennies
