magman
WHY? Safety catches can be knocked off without realising a dead bolt can't be
hambone
Bit slow replying to that as i havent long come home after checking the zero on my CZ and it is still out. Just followed your instructions and as expected the rifle ejected the (empty case) round.

hambone
I think i'm missing somthing here, if you lift the bolt and drop you are recocking the pin. How does this make the gun safer to carry?

ollie
I carry my .22lr round chambered, bolt closed and safety on. I usually check the safety every 200 yards to make sure it is on.
hambone
Re read my post lift the bolt pull the trigger and drop the bolt with the trigger pulled a dead bolt Ok think i got it now can't say i see any advantage especially in company, easier to not chamber round and drop magazine if needed. I am also not sure about dry firing, does it damage pins.
Paddy Galore! I am also not sure about dry firing, does it damage pins. it's not dry firing as the firing pin doesn't engage the sear, but apparently yes, dry firing a rimmie is a bad idea as the pin can hit the edge of the chamber. njc110381
I always stalk with the rifle loaded and safety on. I don't really think the safety counts for much as muzzle awareness is the key, but it doesn't hurt to apply it. I think what matters when you carry a loaded rifle is making sure that if you trip or the rifle discharges for another reason, the muzzle is always pointing in a safe direction. I carry mine muzzle down but can also appreciate that on some terrain there is a risk of plugging the barrel doing it this way. If you do carry it muzzle up then as a ND is almost unheard of I think the chances of the rifle firing and then going on to hit someone on its return to earth is a chance slim enough to be worth taking. When in a vehicle it varies. Sometimes it's loaded and sometimes not. For example if I have a driver and the rifle is pointing out of the passenger window and skyward then I will carry it loaded and safe if the ground isn't too rough. Again, muzle awareness matters more than loaded/unloaded etc in my mind. Same with walking. I shoot with a left handed mate and am happy to walk beside him as our rifles point well away from eachother due to the opposite ways of carrying them. If I'm behind someone I unload, same for them if I'm in front. As for stalking with anything other than a loaded rifle. I guess it could work in the open but in woodland you're asking to bump nearly every Deer you encounter.
