quitting smoking - day 1

Ozzie Mate, I tiik a course of Champix tablets just over 10 months ago - It was the best thing I could have ever done mate cos I am still off the weed (Mind you I still get a few cravings)!:good:

I was on between 40 and 50 a day and had been for most of my life, well certainly well over 45 years of heavy smoking, so I didn't find it easy, but I managed, and if I can manage then just about anyone can, as long as you have some willpower.

OK there are a few side effects with Champix, the worst that I had were the derams, some of them were crazy and some were downright frightening but you have to remember smoking is an adiction exactly the same as coke, heroine or any other drug so when you quit you will get some side effects for a while.

Stick with it mate, it is well worth it in the end. If you want any help, advice or support please do not hesitate in asking, I'm sure that there are plenty of us on here that will do all we can to help you out!

Unfortunately I have already done a lot of damage to my body, some of which is quite severe and some of which is irreversable and some of it may well even be the end of me but I've no right to complain as it is all self inflicted (nor am I looking for any sympathy), all I will say is please try to stick with it mate, it is worth it in the long run, not just for you but for those around you that love and care about you, if you can't do it for yourself do it for them, you owe it to them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

used to smoke 'the other'. one day i just stopped. its a mental thing. if you want it bad enough you can do it. i kept thinking its going to make me 'go white' even though it never used to, and i frightened myself into staying off.

Another vote for the Alan Carr books here. I quit about 6 years ago after many, many failed attempts. Read the book, stopped, never smoked again - simples. If I felt the 'craving' (which only really lasts a week or two) I just read the book again. Best £5 I ever spent :good:

Thats me on day 116 and still marking them off on the calender in big red pen !! lol

I was over 40 a day and killing myself ! Plus it was costing £3600 a year !!

From the first day I stopped I felt better ! Watch the calender!! 1 goes to 2 and very soon you see 8 going to 9 and the smile on your face gets bigger as well . I cant hear myself wheeze when I lie down to sleep,I dont cough in the morning any more !

AND I DONT STINK LIKE AN ASHTRAY any more !!!!!

GO FOR IT !!

You have everything to gain ,and NOTHING to loose !!

PS, Just bought myself a new Blaser R8 rifle £2700 which is still less than a years smoking :good:

I started when I was about 7 and packed it in at 27 - like GW and MM you have to want to stop - I just said soad this and threw pack in bin and spit out fag and never had one since - 37 yrs fag free -Your mates could be your worst enemy as they keep offering you one and sometimes by instinct you take one- as said you do get urge especially after a hectic night in or after sunday lunch but just hang on craving goes pretty quick.

My mate is on gum -give him his due he hasn't had a fag in two yrs or more but his slopping as he chews get's on your nerves.

By way the hectic night fags would no longer apply.

Zyban for me - Quit 1st November last year and haven't touched one since. I got headaches, constipation (which for me was a novelty!!)and complete insomnia for a week, but it soon passes and the desire for a fag just goes - Simple as!

Can't explain what happened, but the thought of a cigarette at a social function now enters my head and exits just as quickly. When i was cold turkey or on the gum/patches/lozenges etc i pretty, much always gave in.

Well done  Its good to see someone being positive. Guess how much us non smokers save over 25 years of not smoking ?

It buys more than a R8. Keep up the good work

I gave up using will power and nothing else, that was on the 3rd of July 1995 (i remember cos it's the day before the 4 july  ), giving up is hard work but also strangly enjoyable, beer tastes fantastic, sugar in coffee is awful :good: , the cravings don't last too long may be a couple of years ??? getting weaker as time goes by, my missus had a fag yesterday and it smelt rather good  but the thought goes as quickly as it came :)

enjoy giving up, it is one hell of an experience :)
