would like to ask ive a 391 that ive had for about 2 or 3 years and have had no bother with it , but recently it has started jamming with me not all the time but enough to notice sumthing isnt right i clean it well so wud sumthing else be the problem its catching the spent empty shell

Too much oil can be a bad thing, it gunks up and gets sticky, and are you useing low recoils or low velocity cartridges?

Check the gas ports are clear as well.

Could be many things, but you have to start somewhere.

If the empty cartridge is not ejecting properly then it is likely that the bolt assembly is not being driven back hard enough.

As Dekers suggested this can be caused by very light loads although my 391 would cycle anything.

The gas ports in a 391 are a pain in the butt to clean because you have to remove the gas regulating valve to get at them. That they are dirty is a very likely cause of your problem.

See here for an excellent article on 391 maintenance.

im useing number 6 RC 32 grms, i gave it a major clean a number of weeks ago mayabe i used a bit to much oil ;)

Who knows, but 20+ years ago I thought I was doing my Beretta 303 a favour leaving lots of oil on it, it jammed after a handful of shots, the oil caked up and went like glue...never again, just a hint of oil...my 391 has never caused this problem.

Perhaps I'm lucky, but I often use 21 or 24 9's on the skeet with no issues!

Hope you get it sorted, most likely something simple!

Hi,

When was the last time you changed the recoil spring and cleaned the recoil spring tube?

What length are the cartridges you are using, from my experience the 391 will cycle anything provided the case length is 70mm.. 21g Eley first's yes, 28g Hull CompX No.

As above, check everything is clean and no oil except on the contact points on the bolt assembly just before you refit it.

Should be an easy fix

Potentially the most extensive break down guide I have ever seen. Interesting to see all the bits properly disassembled but must be a pain to put back correctly. Not for beginers

Very interesting and potentially of great help to many, including me, fortunately I have never had to be quite so drastic with my 391 but I have saved a copy just in case.

actually its very very easy? takes minutes to disassemble and put back together, I have had a 391 for about 8 years I too thought that a full strip down looked "difficult" but once done you will find yourself repeating it over and over again till it seems so easy its a joke.

I have a copy of the full guide and it really helped when i first got my 391, definitely the manual Beretta should have supplied.

Well worth the $18 and it arrived in about a week from the US.

When was the recoil spring last changed?

Have you removed the trigger mech to make sure there are no obstructions at the back of the action?
