big bad lindz
It's unlikely to be anything to do with the gun. According to the OP it was the cartridge at fault. ANY gun would have problems if fired with a wad stuck in the barrel. (However if it had been an Escort I've no doubt it would have exploded, killing everything within a half mile radius) Hi what is it with an Escort. I use one and although I have had a few problems mostly not loading a second shell after firing it has usually been down to dirt and build up and a good strip down and clean has sorted it out. Glad only the pocket was hurt at least it can be fixed !! BBL
HDAV
Myth busters had an episode recently where they tried to get a modern shotgun to banana peel.... they couldn't even with a steel spike rammed down the barrel, IT bulged and ripped the bead off but that was it. On a side note i noticed today my bottom choke kept becoming a 1/4 turn loose......
neil smith
Its almost certainly caused by a missed or low powder charge during the cartridge manufacture & I have seen it many times during competitions, at both pistol & shotgun matches, usually the round will not be as loud as usual & the felt recoil will be much less, if you ever get a round that does that always check that the shotgun wad or pistol/rifle bullet has not been left in the barrel. Its something IPSC range officers are trained to look for as they supervise shooters during a match. N
arjimlad
Is it not worth sending the cartridge company a picture & the cartridges involved ? I have heard of some folks getting compensation for the repair costs in these circumstances.

On a side note i noticed today my bottom choke kept becoming a 1/4 turn loose...... I was gonna mention that....it takes more than stuck wadding to blow a barrel. On MB they welded an iron bar into the end and only managed a slight split. A knackered gun but no real safety issue.
Breastman
Doesn't shooting insurance cover you for accidental damage to your equipment? Mark

While I find the MB series interesting and generally techically sound , I think its wrong to dismiss a foreign object of any sort lodged / blocking the barrel as being anything else than a serious danger to the shooter , those around him and the firearm in question. The dangers /effects of blocked barrels have been proved by occurence many times over. There is nothing safe about a barrel failing /putting shrapnel into the air 30 inches from your face. manxman2
I had a benelli auto for a very short time many years ago, forget the model type, but it had those hideous screw on choke tubes.
